I DO NOT recommend this place. Sheila the hair stylist messed up my long beautiful hair and did not even apologize. I had to come back the next day to DEMAND my money back.
I tried this salon 2 years ago .....David was my stylist.
Since then I have moved back to Illinois . My hair has never look the same . The color and cut were amazing !
I purchase all the hair products but still have not found anyone that can duplicate what David did for me . ....
I only wish these salons were in the Chicago area .....
I have even considered flying back to PA just have David color and cut my hair . .....everyone in PA consider yourself lucky that you have Philip Pelusi salons ....
Kudos to David he is the BEST .....
HORRID – This place is where hair (and hope) goes die. Jake and Sam, the 2 managers up front are TERRIBLE to everyone that walking in the door. I should've taken a look at how the employees present themselves before letting anyone touch my hair. It was 4 hours JUST for a blow out! The woman they gave me basically knows how to do one thing on one type of hair. I looked like a dying poodle.
Did I mention it smells of urine and the desk people look like pure Pittsburgh trash? No one should ever set foot in here.
Great Experience with BRIAN! – I had not gotten my hair cut in a while, and I did not want to pay a ridiculous amount to get my hair cut and styled. I do not dye my hair or get highlights etc., I just wanted a good haircut. I called around to many salons in my area (Shadyside) and was repeatedly quoted the base price of $55 and up, even more at some salons. This was too much for me so I went online to search the tutorial scene and make an attempt to cut my own hair. I thought no problem, I'll save time and money. Ladies, this is a bad idea. Do not try to cut your hair. I screwed up, as can be expected, and then I was in a real bind, now I had to get my hair cut because I had cut a large piece out of the front in an attempt at side bangs. My calling began again and I decided to try salons in Monroeville this time. My roommate had gotten her hair dyed and cut (she dies her brown hair blonde) at the Philip Pelusi downtown with great results, so I decided to try the Philip Pelusi at Monroeville Mall and they quoted me $25 and up, so I scheduled an appointment FOR THE SAME DAY!. This was excellent because when you screw up your hair you do not want to waste any time trying to get it back to presentable. I arrived 5 minutes before my scheduled time and they took me right away. At some salons I have gotten there on time and still had to wait for my appointment, which I think everyone hates. I explained my ridiculous situation and Brian was very personable and understanding! I was afraid I was going to get a condescending stylist who would make me feel stupid for my mistake, but no, it was funny and he laughed and reassured me that it could be fixed. Actually several people in the salon got involved in the conversation creating a cool and comfortable atmosphere where customers and stylists were interacting with each other instead of all silence and sitting in wait for the reveal and the price point. Well after some friendly joking and an enjoyable conversation about previous how-to mishaps, my haircut was underway. Brian explained to me how to really cut bangs, and why it is so difficult to do on your own. He showed me how they blend the bang in with the lower layers to create a great layered look. I was really satisfied with my haircut. It looked great in the end, and you couldn't even tell that I had messed it up before coming to the salon. He told me that there was a minor issue with my attempt at cutting which left a small "hole in the bang" but that it would grow out and fall in place (whatever, I didn't notice any holes!). I was very pleased with Brian and his expertise. The one thing I can say I wasn't enthralled with was the finishing touches. He blow-dried my hair with a round brush to curl it under a bit, but that was it. I spend a lot of time on my hair each day straightening, curling under, spiral curling, so the" just blow dried" look seemed unpolished to me. I wish he would have used a curling iron on it. The iron just gives it a shinier finish and better definition in my opinion. However, I didn't ask him to do this and it might have been an extra cost to have him actually style it in the salon. I didn't have any big plans after so it wasn't a big deal, when I got home and styled it myself it looked great and I was 20% happier with the final look! The price ended up being $35 dollars before tip. NOT BAD! I have paid that much for haircuts before and been about 35x less satisfied. I highly recommend Brian, he is great! I also highly recommend Philip Pelusi in Monroeville Mall. I even got to do a little shopping before the appointment which is a great added bonus.
Bad experience – I could not get an appointment with my regular stylist so I decided to go to Phillip Pelusi in Monroeville. I was there over 4 hours and spent over $200.00. I only had a trim but I had my hair highlighted and also eyebrow's waxed. I had 4 hairs left on the arch but that wasn't too bad because of my bangs. My best friend told me there was no demension in my hair (all that money). The next day I pulled my hair back and there were my grays at the temple. She never got any dye on my face. Usually you hate that, but it covers the grays and roots. Mine were visible. Very disappointed.
TJ at C3 – I have been going to Philip Pelusi's for more than 20 yuears... neverhad a bad haircut, but never asked to be changed into a model either. If you help the stylist by letting them know what you want, always seems to workout nicel
HORRIBLE – If I could give it NO stars I would. They charged me $53 dollars for a wash and flat Iron, when all I wanted was a wash and curl, but they said that would have cost an additional $50! That is crazy! The stylist took an hour to blow dry my hair. My hair doesn't need an hour to blow dry, she didn't have a curling iron of her own, and we waited 30 min for her to find a curling iron and then have it heat up, only to be told that in order to get my hair curled, it was an astronomical extra fee. When I spoke to the manager about my displeasure she basically said they did me a 'favor' charing me 53 dollars instead of 80. I would have loved to see them try to charge me 80 dollars for the crappy way my hair looks. I've been to them once before, got a great stylist, but she is gone. The turn over for stylists seems to be high, and the variations in pricing are a set up for customers to be swindled. Bad Hair experience, Bad Customer Service. BAD SALON!!!
Average Salon – The people are very nice, and there are some very good stylists. I've recently had two bad cuts, though, and will not be returning. The price I've payed for my cuts were not worth what I recieved. My boyfriend also recently had a very poor cut. I was very dissapointed.
Editorial Review by Leilani A. Wertens – Conveniently located in the Monroeville mall, this branch of the local salon chain offers cuts, color, highlights and cosmetic consultation. The full line of Phyto-life beauty products are also available.
Best hair salon in town – I am African American and have had bad experiences finding qualified people to do my hair. At Pelusi's they know how to do all kinds of hair. I started going there about a year ago and my hair was severely damaged. The stylist gave me advice that I didn't want to hear. We have to cut and instead of dying we will have to hide your grey with glossing. Well I can tell you that I have the healthiest hair that I have ever had in my life. I have had all of my family members go there and they were all happy. The prices were no different than when I went to JCPenney hair salon in the same mall (that's were my hair was originally damaged by a bad dye job and a even worse hair cut). They do push products though (all of the salons do). They also push return appointments every six weeks. I can't afford that and they don't harass me when I say "I'll call you when I'm ready to come back", although there is a 20% discount in it for you if you do. I guess that is a little bit of a gimick. Overall I would say I am very satisfied and would not let any other salon do my hair.
