A meal to remeber!!! – I have never been so impressed with an establishment!! When I called and made the reservation I was asked if there was a special event I replied yes! That it was my wife's birthday and I wanted to make it one that she would not soon forget. This was the first birthday of hers that we would be abel to celebrate without interuption it was also the first time since I retired from the Marine Corps and started working in the corrections field that we had any real time togther. The service was above and beyond from the women that took my reservation to the serving staff and even the valet's sevice. The chefs are out of sight the food was EXCELLENT. The entire Mallorcas staff made my wife's birthday Spectacular. They are beyond resonibely priced the portions are great. The atmosphere is intament and romantic. I would like to thank the entire Mallorca staff for makeing this night that she won't forget!! If you have not had the oppertunity to tyr Mallorca I strongly encourage you do. Mallorca blows away other resturants with their prices, service and food. Thanks to Mallorca for a wonderful time.
great dinner! – i love the food here. came and ate out on the patio. i love the food here and the portions are very good too. it is however on the expensive side so i dont get to eat here too often. but i will recommend it!
Excellent well worth the hassle! – Wife and I were in Pittsburgh and wanted something different. read several reviews and thought we would try this spot. The decore was excellent and the staff was very helpful. Kobe ribeye for me and Cantalone for the wife.. I must say her's far exceeded mine but we share a lot :)! Overall a very pleasurable evening.. the one caution I will tell out of towners... South Pittsburgh is slow before 10pm as the club seen is the majority of business there, so cab service is ridiculous.... Yellow cab in Steeletown sucks.... Beware and call early...
Gross-they served shrimp that was not de-veined!!! – This place was disgusting. I ordered the paella-this is a Spanish restaurant after all-it must have been instant boil/microwave in bag rice with some red food coloring. The texture was terrible-no crust at all. I almost puked when I realized that they served me shrimp that was not deveined-I unfortunately didn't notice this till after I tried to have the meal as lunch the next day. Thankfully I had only eaten a few bites at the restaurant! There were at least ten separate dishes at our table and none of the other food was anything you couldn't throw in your oven and have come out as good if not better. I certainly would never serve full intestines to anyone. Not sure how they're still open.
i had a party there – i had a pretty big gathering there - about 40 ppl and they were great. we got a whole room to ourselves and had plenty of wait staff to serve us. the food impressed everyone and it was a real talking point for all the guests. they let guests choose right off the menu and made everything to order. it was a pricey party, but totally worth it. if you're looking for fancy and unique this is it
Delicious – I really looked forward to dining at this restaurant, had heard great things about the food. I wasn't disappointed, the food was delicious and well prepared. Only drawback was the table that the two of us were seated at. The restaurant wasn't busy, and we had reservations. We were seated so close to another couple that one would think that we were a foursome. Four inches between our tables. There were plenty of other open tables. It was a special occasion, and the lack of privacy left me feeling more than a little uncomfortable.
Waste of money - Horrible food – Probably the worst restaurant I have been to in Pittsburgh. I can honestly say that the best part of my meal was the sourdough bread and the fried calamari appetizer. I ordered the lamb with mustard sauce that must have sat under a warming lamp for 20 minutes. I am fairly certain that the mustard was simply French's yellow mustard dumped on the top with burnt pine nuts. The sauce had hardened and the lamb was dry on top. My girlfriend ordered the paella. On a positive note, her sausage was very good...but it stops there. There was nothing appetizing about the dish. The shrimp were not deveined. The lobster was not cleaned (full of detritus), chewy and simply looked disgusting. There were several large chunks of dry chicken. Being that things were going so well... we did not order desert. Fifteen minutes passed while waiting for our waiter before requesting the check from another passing employee. All of this for $75 dollars. I will never go there again.
Just Okay and noisy – Wanted to eat here and arrived before the dinner rush. I had already eaten so I had room for an appetizer. I ordered some stuffed peppers with seafood stuffing and running dressing. I was first seated in the large sun room by the door next to the noisy kitchen, where all I heard was banging and clanging and yelling. I asked to be moved away from the kitchen. After being moved it was still cramped but much less noisy. Others ordered huge dinners and were eating. I received my appetizer will small peppers and some seafood-like stuffing in an orange sauce. It was ok, nothing great about the taste. The room became more crowded and noisier. I was feeling claustraphobic and irritated and just wanted to leave. I guess your experience depends on what you order and what time of day it is.
Food very good, service excellent, soo many choices... – The staff here makes you feel very welcome. They all interact together to make for a wonderful dining experience. The menu has such tremendous variety - it was hard to pick. WIth menu items like boar and suckling pig, the menu is also very unique. We had stuffed mushrooms as an appetizer (very good). My Fiancee had the seafood casserole which she really enjoyed and appeared to be a favorite there. I had one of the specials of the day, lamb with mustard sauce. The lamb was cooked very well, but the mustard sauce was a little overpowering - too much mustard. However, overall we were treated extremely well and enjoyed ourselves thoroughly. We will definitely be back to try something new!
The absolute worst!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! – After eating at Mallorca and expecting authentic, quality Spanish cuisine, I must say I was thoroughly disappointed. Personally, I've made better paella at home. I find it hard to believe that this paella is award winning because I have lived in Spain, and therefore I know what real paella actually tastes like. My paella had zero flavor, like the seafood & vegetables had been cooked separately & then thrown into a bland generic yellow rice (I'm sure the color was not from real saffron). Also, the seafood was not fresh and what was supposed to be chicken was actually pork (probably some old stuff they were trying to use up). the rice was long grain rather than short grain, the kind typically used in paella. This was paella at its absolute worst, no flavor, no thought, just executed in the cheapest and most inauthentic way possible. My advice, make your own paella, and don't waste your money.
