When i moved to Pittsburgh a few years ago I took my pets to the Big Easy Animal Hospital in Lawrenceville. I was always very pleased taking them here. I was living in Greenfield and could have taken them to the Greenfield Veterinary Hospital but I heard less than pleasant things about them from many different people that i met in the Greenfield area.
Then a time came when Greenfield Veterinary Hospital was convenient in location and I told myself how bad could it be? My dog had a growth that they did a biopsy on and also removed for him. This is one of the most stressful things I have ever had to deal with in my life. I will NEVER return. The worst veterinary care I have ever encountered. If only I would have read the reviews on line before taking my baby here!
The first appointment went fine, but it was the ones after that that I became unhappy. Dr. Handke was nice enough, but not great. I felt rushed when coming here and my questions that were answered were vague. I was talked over and felt stupid. I only saw Dr. Handke once in my 5 visits to the office within 2 weeks. Most of the technicians are okay, but one young blonde girl, seems to have the need to slam my dog down on the table when its time to do anything! This made me very angry, my dog is incredibly cooperative and would sit/lay down in any position you'd like him to be in easily. After the surgery my dog was sent home with a cone that was WAY too small. I mentioned this, but was ignored. I was also told it was going to be a hard healing process because of the way they stitched him up. On the first day my dog was so out of it, it didn't even matter because he wanted nothing to do with the incision, but i knew it was only a matter of time before he became curious. On day two he proved that he was able to reach the incision. He had all around supervision for 3 days but my boyfriend and I had to go back to work. On that third day when I got home he had torn his bandage off and had some of the suchers ripped out with raw skin being exposed and some bleeding. I panicked! Thankfully they were able to see him and he only needed to have it bandaged. This happened repeatedly. They charged me insane amounts to "examine" him and bandage him multiple times (poorly) when all they needed to do was give me a cone that fit my dog properly. The third time they wrapped him I told them it was pointless and he was just going to get it off. The technician told me he was confident it would stay. Hours later.. bandage off. At this point, i'm livid. Finally, not until I called in extremely upset the next day did I get someones attention. I explained everything and they told me to come in and they would look at the incision once more and properly fit him for a cone. We tried a different style, but they only had one size. I knew immediately it was WAY TOO SMALL. I didn't understand even for a second that this lady could possibly think he wasn't going to be able to bite/lick at the incision. My dog shows her with in minutes that he can indeed reach and shes dumbfounded! She told me she would order the correct size immediately and that it would be in in a few days. She specifically told me not to call in, that they would call me. Guess what!?They never called. They told me that they would supply the ecollar free of charge because of all of the trouble I have gone through. It kills me that I trusted these people. I know if i would have went to the Big Easy Animal Hospital things would have been a lot different. My dog would have healed at the proper time, he wouldn't have been in pain for so long and I wouldn't have been dishing out money every few days to these morons. Do yourself a favor and go to the Big Easy!!!!
I have been reading the above comments and am saddened that a red sea pedestrian would represent their people so poorly - "The heroic deed of Yehudit has inspired faith and courage in the hearts of Jews throughout the ages." Your diatribe inspired nothing, you are a fraud to your namesake.
Dr Winnie needs to spend more time with the sick animals, When I was there, the staff - not licensed vets - treated my animals. Dr W breezed in and out. I had to call several times to finally get test results "off the record" from the staff because the Dr. was to busy(lazy - uncaring) to call. In regards to another issue, I knew my cat got scratched by my other cat, and all I needed was and antibiotic, and trhey refused to help without seeing both animals at different appts. - $$$$$ - I to used Dr. Babick from 1984-2000, when I came back to Pgh from Florida in 2008, and returned to GVH - I was very disappointed.
On another note - I wonder if Dr Winnie is the one who responded to another client, or if it was someone in the office - either way - very very unprofessional - I will never return there, and this is just another reason of many.
Wonderful staff and care at GVH – My mom and I have used Greenfield Veterinary Hospital for our many cats since I was a child and Dr. Babik was still independently practicing there. We met Dr. Winnie shortly after he started working at GVH when we had to have one of our beloved cats, Fleur, put to sleep, and he was incredibly kind, compassionate, and gentle with both her and my mom, who was devastated by her death.
Unfortunately during college I had to take two of my cats to another vet in Pittsburgh due to transportation barriers which made getting to Greenfield difficult (can't take a cat on the bus) and had horrible experiences and ended up losing both of them due to that vet's negligence. I quickly returned to GVH and have been taking my two current cats there for years and have had nothing but positive experiences during regular checkups as well as more urgent care/emergency situations.
We have seen by both Dr. Winnie and Dr. Orosco (sp?), and I have been treated with nothing but complete respect and the utmost attention with regards to my knowledge of and concerns for both of my animals. When my older cat, Seamus, hid under a chair in the exam room due to anxiety, Dr. Winnie got down on his hands and knees and talked to him for several minutes to coax him out. The staff at GVH are knowledgable and friendly, and clearly have a deep love and commitment to the care of animals and have been in my experiences over the years always willing to go above and beyond to provide excellent care. to both the animals and their owners. I have referred the majority of my close friends with animals to Dr. Winnie, and they have all had the same experiences as I have had with their cats and dogs.
I like GVH – I stumbled upon these reviews recently when I was looking up the number for GVH so I could make an appointment for my cat. Seriously...I don't understand why there are so many negative reviews against GVH on here. I've taken my cat there several times. She saw a different vet each time and every one of them was great. She most recently saw Dr. Winnie, who seems to have a bad rap from what I've read of the reviews on here. I don't understand why because I found him to be very patient, pleasant, knowledgeable, and informative. The vets at GVH were able to diagnose her food allergies, which several vets in the past at other veterinary clinics have missed. The treatments/new diet the vets there have prescribed have completely transformed my cat for the better. Their rates are very reasonable, and all the other staff are very friendly.
MONEY is more important than your pet – i have been a long time client of gvh (over ten years) and this last experience proved to me that loyalty earns you nothing! i will say they did take in my hannibal AFTER i was crying and sobbing on the phone woth them....however....they didnt look at him til the next day anyway. which was fine. i just wanted him there in case something went wrong thru the night. but instead of them offering that i bring him and drop him off as my first option jonathin gave me numbers of other places to take him. which i found out i should have. then after them charging 450 (which i wouldve paid regardless as we are talking about a family pet) i told them trhat i couldnt leave work again and had to keep hannibal there anothet night. after putting me on hold to actually ASK if that was ok - they added insult to injury and charged me another $40! as if my experience with practically having to beg them to look at him they needed that last $40 to top things off. after ten plus years of going there youd think that would help you out. NO money is more important. even after complaining i was not offered any type of resolution shown any interest to keep my business. when i just spent $2000 there in june they loved me. there are other hospitals in town. do not go to these money hungry mongrels
Finding a new vet – I have been taking my pets to Greenfield Veterinary Hospital for several years now, based upon a recommendation of an animal loving colleague (the proud owner of dogs, cats, birds, fish, and a horse). When I only had cats, I found the veterinary care to be satisfactory. My cats did not have any severe health problems and for yearly checkups and the occasional flea treatment, I had no complaints. However, a few years ago, I rescued a dog. She is an older dog and has multiple health problems. I have been severely dissapointed with the service I have received during the time that we have been treating her for her issues. There have been several instances of poor customer service - one time, we waited for 2.5 hours to be seen. After the dog was diagnosed with a health issue requiring a prescription diet, Dr Winnie disappeared and left me with the vet tech to discuss the course of treatment. The vet tech did not give me the proper instructions and a new set of health problems was created. I have been attempting to order her prescriptions online and the office has been remiss in responding to repeated inquiries to fax the prescription information to the company. As far as Dr Winnie is concerned, I run hot and cold with him. I find the way he speaks to me to be condescending and off putting at times, however, I am consistently pleased with his gentle and caring demeanor toward animals. I find their prices to be reasonable and their hours and location to be convenient. I have continued to go to Greenfield Veterinary Hospital despite being moderately to severely dissatisfied with our most recent visits, but we are ready to take our business elsewhere.
IF YOU LOVE YOUR PET RUN AWAY!!! – This review is for Greenfield Veterinary Hospital.
I was forced to leave one star. I really give it no star.
This is the worst "hospital" I have ever experienced in my life. I have several pets and have for several years. Not only is the overall place filthy but there is mold on the window sills. Beyond the grossness of the place the staff is completely INCOMPETENT. From the first person you see to the last person you see. I have never met a staff of "pet" people who care SO LITTLE!! The pet i am referring to was seen over a long period of time for an injury. With all the lack of professionalism, intelligence and basic human decency this pet suffered for weeks.
Finally, some one who works there with a HINT of compassion suggested the pet be seen somewhere else. Somewhere with better equipment and better doctors.
I can't change what happened to him but if i can keep you from taking your animal you love so much to this place at least that will help heal my hurting.
If you love your pet like you say you do.....RUN FROM THIS PLACE!!!
Dr. Winnie and his staff are top notch professionals! – The review titled "I'm sorry" does not accurately reflect my experience in the ten years I have been taking pets, both cats and dogs, to Greenfield Veterinary Hospital. Dr. Winnie and his colleagues have always been absolutely professional, kind, courteous and generous with their time and have always been more than reasonable any time finances were a concern. I own a pet business, and in my experience, a person's opinion of any one vet often depends on whether or not the patient had a "happy outcome", and has nothing to do with the capabilities of the vet, which in Dr. Winnie's case are truly numerous. Personally, I am loyal to Greenfield Veterinary Hospital and it is always the first call I will make when one of my pets is sick.
Im Sorry – I am the owner of a 8 month old cat and have been searching for the best place to take my little man. I have heard both good and bad things about Greenfield and decided to look into reviews myself. After seing both Yahudits post (which maybe blown out of proportion or not) I found myself asstonished by the replay of Greenfield Vet Hospital itself. Regardless of what actually happend between the hospital and the client I find this extremely unprofessional for a buisness to belittle someone and speak about the situaiton openly online. If this hospital goes to this exstent I can not conciously bring myself to my pet or my money to an establishment that would bring themselves to this level. Thanks for the warning a head of time.
