Rusticity and romance atop Mount Washington come with Continental cuisine and some twinkling of the ivories. – The Scene
In lieu of a view, draped windows, subdued lighting, and four working fireplaces add touches of grace to an otherwise unremarkable converted home. Frequented by neighborhood denizens, mature singles and first-daters, the two-story house once owned by the "Mrs. Soffel" of Diane Keaton's 1984 movie boasts one of the better-known piano bars in the area, as well as a solid restaurant.
The signature entree, Veal Shiloh, piles veal parmesan with sauteed shrimp, tomatoes, green peppers and Monterey Jack. A straightforward approach typifies most everything else on the menu--from the double-breasted chicken marsala to an unencumbered filet mignon. Skip the appetizers, which veer from bland, dry crabmeat Hoelzel to lobster tails with an inappropriate bite. At Shiloh's, you can't sing for your supper, but you can sing afterwards.
