In honor of this area's proud servicemen and women. – The Scene
Located in the heart of Oakland, this stunning museum captures the attention of passersby immediately. It was also a backdrop for a memorable scene from "Silence of the Lambs."
Originally intended as a tribute to Allegheny County veterans who served in the Civil War, the hall has since been rededicated in honor of all local veterans of wars involving the United States. Modeled after the Mausoleum of Halicarnassus (one of the famed Seven Wonders of the Ancient World), the Hall's Museum of Military History houses an impressive roster of more than 10,000 artifacts and archives from the Civil War to the Gulf War. Uniforms, cannons, weapons, photographs, personal letters and mementos tell the story of Allegheny County residents at war. Soldiers and Sailors also maintains a fairly extensive library of military history. An impressive and too-seldom-used auditorium is also on the premises.
