Penn Animal Hospital with Dr. Stoud and Dr. Battle has been my choice for my pets for 45 years. Honest and upfront about the outcome of any treatment, the whole staff really cares about my pets (cats & dogs) and I know they will receive the best care possible.
Great folks .Dr Battle and Dr Cahn are both amazing and caring ..and most of all..reasonable!! If you are looking for a vet for life, these folks are the ones..! Front desk folks are amazing too!! I would never go anywhere else..!!
My experience at Penn Animal Hospital is honestly the WORST experience I have had at any veterinarian in my life. I sat with my 2 cats and 1 dog in the waiting room for 30 minutes past my scheduled appointment and finally decided to leave after 5 different dogs peed on the floor with NOBODY cleaning it up. When I explained to the girl behind the desk why I was canceling my appointment, she said "well this is a vet's office, what did you expect?" Umm, I've been to many other vets in the past and never had this level of trauma for my pets. I would NEVER recommend this place to anyone else.
great place! – Best vet I have ever been to - Dr. Joe Staud. Now there is a smart guy! He was thorough, caring & took his time. He also doesn't charge outrageous fees. When reading some reviews, I wondered why one would be concerned about an "outdated look"of a room. Personally, I am more concerned about the health & well being of my dogs. Penn Animal Hospital is where I am sure to get the best care.
friendly and fair – I read mixed review about Penn Animal Hospital. The good ones were good enough that I decided to take Rocco there today. I have been to other vets and have been charged extremely outrageous prices for minimal tests and treatments. Penn Animal Hospital was not the same. The staff was friendly and pleasant and Dr. Battle was extremely knowledgeable and fair. The staff even carried Rocco to and from the office for me (he is 85 pounds.) The doctor explained everything to me very clearly and also asked for my thoughts and opinions. He listened very carefully to what I had to say. He was very sincere and I could tell he is not just in it for the money like some vets are. I am a mother/waitress/student and I was dreading the trip to the vet and the financial setback that it would impose on me. However, this wasn't the case. I would choose this office for Rocco again or for any other pets in the future and I would refer a friend here for sure. I am grateful to my neighbor for telling me about Penn and grateful that I found these honest people to care for my pet. I have never written a review for anything, but, like other people on here, decided to write one because of the negative ones that I read. Rocco may or may not recover. We will find out tomorrow when results are in from blood work. I hope and pray that he will be okay, but either way I am glad I took him where I did and will be able to get some answers. Rhiana
Caring, attentive vets – I would highly recommend this facility to any pet owner on a budget. You won't sacrifice the quality of care for the cost. No, it's not a bright, shiny new facility like some of the big vet centers out in the suburbs, but those facilities will pass the expense along to you. Penn Animal Hospital is affordable, clean, convenient, and they truly care for your animals and will listen to your questions and concerns. This is the third vet I have taken my cat to, and is the first one to actually listen to me thoroughly and offer a solution to my cat's symptoms. Dr. Staud was kind and caring to my pet and very attentive to my concerns. I will certainly be back to see Dr. Staud again!
The only reason I did not give it 5 stars is that one of the vet techs was very unprofessional in front of customers. Everyone I interacted with was friendly and kind, but one of the vet techs (a larger girl with blond curly hair) was talking loudly about how she needed a beer in front of the customers. She also grabbed one customer's puppy from him in order to show it to her friend, who had a barking dog with her. The puppy's owner was clearly uncomfortable with this and it was very unprofessional behavior on the part of the tech. Other than this, I had a great experience at this facility.
A great place to take your pet – I don't often write reviews, but I had write this one because of all the negative reviews I read on this sight. My few experiences with this facility have each been very good. The staff were friendly and helpful on the phone as well as in person. The doctor and vet tech who cared for my pet were kind and knowledgeable. They answered my questions and made me feel comfortable that I had come to the right place.
The facility is definitely not fancy, but it is clean and appropriate for animals. The day I went was not busy so I didn't have to wait long. There is free off-the-street parking.
My experience was reasonable. I receommend this facility to all Pittsburghers.
Penn Animal Hospital~My Veterniranian Clinic – I started going to Penn Animal Hospital in 2004. My son brought me home a Pit Bull puppy ( Lucy ) when she was only 5 weeks old.
Lucy developed severe allergies & almost died twice as her airways narrowed due to swelling. I took her to a local Animal Hospital and they did save her life but It felt too big, too impersonal and too expensive.
I worked in Bloomfield and would pass Penn Animal Hospital everyday coming home from work on the bus and always took notice of them so I decided to call and 'interview' them. I ended up taking Lucy there for her vaccinations and allergy treatment. I was very happy with the doctor so I started to take my son's dog there as well for her vaccinations plus any other health issues.
I've only see two of the Veterinarians & like them both. I just love the Vet Tech, I don't remember his name (I am terrible with names) but I do remember his kindness and gentleness with my dogs. The front office staff are very pleasant & friendly as well. I feel that I've always been treated well and most importantly my dogs were. I don't know if the doctors 'specialize' in any particular disorder/disease but I do know they do not specialize in Allergies or Cancer because they gave me a referrals. So if your pet has a disorder/disease the doctors do not specialize in they will refer you to a Doctor who does.
Since I've worked in Health Care for 35 years I look at this topic from that perspective.
It is important to understand that these are Doctors and not gods. They are treating patients who can not talk and tell them 'where it hurts' or what their symptoms are.
My Lucy developed Lymphoma and no doctor could save her. The Penn Animal Hospital Doctor was kind, compassionate and honest about it. He did not give me false hope nor suggest expensive treatments to prolong her life. That in my opinion is a good doctor who cares for his patients first and making money second.
As long as I have companion animals I will be going to Penn Animal Hospital.
My Pros and Cons – My boyfriend has been bringing his lab mix to Penn Animal for about 6yrs, I have only been there with him a few times with the visits.
FRONT DESK STAFF: Each time I have been there the front staff seems to be very rude with no feeling to how you are feeling, your dog or cat are like children to you so they should care. There is a front desk staff woman with blonde hair she is so very nice, she is patient, kind and understanding with sympathy for your concerns.
When I have been there with him I have met 3 out of the 4 doctors. The older veterinarian, Dr. Battle, and Dr. Kohn. I have felt ever since I met the older doctor he should have retired along time ago I feel he is unsympathetic and monotone I feel like we are bothering him to even be there when at the end of the visit we PAY him. Dr Battle is very kind caring and is concerned for your feelings and concern for your animal he is very passionate and always takes the time. Dr kohn is also wonderful he is also kind caring and is concerned for your feelings and concern for your animal he is very passionate and always takes the time. Dr Battle must have trained him, Kudus to you Dr Battle. I recommend both of these doctors of any doctor I have ever seen there or at any other vets growing up.
The doctor’s helper Ryan, always takes the extra time with us while the doctors are seeing other pets. We are able to talk with him and he is very knowledgeable even before the doctor comes in. When he has to pick up our dog he does it with care, he also has such caring concern in his voice for us he should be the one to replace the older veterinarian, because he really needs to go.
All and all with the minor cons take out the negative and you have a 4 plus stars.
Totally Happy – I purchased a rescue doberman a few years back and immediately took him to Penn Animal. This is the same vet my family has used for at least 25 years. Dr. Battle warned me that he has many health issues and behavioral issues because he was so badly abused. My doberman was severly under weight and sickly. We honestly did not think that he was going to make it through the next couple of days. After talking with Dr. Battle he showed me how to take care of my dogs wounds and what to feed him. He wanted a follow up visit in 1 week to review his progress if he was still living. Within that week, Dr. Battle called at least twice to check on my dog. We nursed him back to health and my beloved Cesar became healthy and happy. He was very loving and great with children. Unfortunately, 4 years later Cesar was diagnosed with cancer, by the time he was diagnosed there was little that we could do. Dr. Battle again showed sympathy and told me to just love my dog for as long as he is still alive. I made him special food every night and made sure that he was not sleeping on the hard floor. Within 1 month I had to put him down because he stopped eating and would not go out side to do his business. When I took him down to the vet, the front office staff where so considerate and understanding, they allowed me to stay in the exam room for as long as I needed to say my good byes. When Dr. Battle came in the room, I was able to discuss with him whether or not this was proper thing to do. He explained that if Cesar did not get up to go to the bathroom and was not eating than he was suffering. Giving Cesars past we did not want him to sufffer any more than he had to, so I decided that it was time. 3 - 4 days after putting my best friend down I received a sympathy card from Dr. Battle and the staff, showing their condolences. I will alway trust my furry friends with Dr. Battle and Dr. Staud. They know what they are doing.
