Take it easy – I used to work at Christos when I was in college. The servers are NOT PAID. They make tips only. So take it easy on the servers. We were basically there out of the goodness of our hearts.
Excellent food, excellent service – I went there with my boyfriend on Jan. 1, and this place was open. The restaurant is very nice, it is all-greek, the ambience is perfect! The waiter was a very nice guy, he made very good recommendations and his service was great. We had Pita Bread with hummus (it's the best hummus I've ever tried) and a glass of greek red wine that was excellent! We also had a mixed Kaba (chicken and lamb) that was really tasty. The cook is Greek, and he is veeery good! If you like Greek food or you want to try it, this is the perfect place!
Christ's Mediterranean grill – I stopped by for lunch last saturday.
I was the ONLY customer, and i was treated very badly.
The owner was very rude, he throw the plate at me and spent the whole time on the phone complaining I came into the restaurant just to have a salad. He did not offer any bread.
BAD SERVICE, VERY RUDE AND FOOD WAS NOT GOOD!!!
Being a food critic, I spent time in Greece and this restaurant does not make Greek food, even if it claims so.
Badd food and service – Christos is to be avoided. The food is bad and the service is equally awful. It is nowhere near Greek or Mediterranean and is located in a drab setting.
Mostly Metiocre. – The food is OK, nothing fabulous. Fairly representative of what these Greek dishes taste like. The resturant is pretty small and tables are very close together. Service is poor- if you can even call it service. The owner is none too friendly. The kid taking orders said I couldn't pay him because he's not allowed to work the cash register... I ordered a simple cold plate, consisting of hummus, tabouli, yoghurt cucumber sauce, grape leaves and pita. He put it all in my to go box on a bed of lettuce which would have been a nice gesture if the lettuce hadn't been brown and wilted. The hummus was decent though a bit runny. The tabouli was way too lemony. If you really have a craving for Greek food, you don't have many choices in Pittsburgh unfortunately but if you can, wait for one of the churches to have a Greek festival. The food is as good if not better, portions are much larger, you won't be over charged and your money will be well spent.
Great Hummus!!! – The food was above average compared to other Greek restaurants, but the hummus was outstanding! I have travelled far and wide but haven't found a plate of garlicky rich and tasty hummus like this. I would recommend going just because of this! Apparently Christo himself was a chef for Jackie Onassis on her yacht!
Not a good experience – My wife and I stopped in for dinner after a Pirates game a few weeks ago. Big disappoitnment. The service was terrible. We ordered our entrees and the waitress came back a few minutes later to tell us we had to order something different because she had given us the wrong menu. The owner (I'm assuming that's who he was) then was yelling at this waitress repeatedly the whole time we were there. it took forever to egt our food. And everyone else in the restaurant was getting impatient too. When the food came, it was average. Not good, but not bad. I wouldn't recommend this place.
Bustling despite the dearth of Greek restaurants in town. – The Scene
It's a relatively small place, simply decorated and clean. Service gets a little bogged down at peak periods, but it's always friendly. You can get in and out quickly, and dinners are a good value.
Local business people and workers in the theater district go for soups and the large Greek salads. Served with pita bread, these are filling and lower in calories than most downtown lunches. Larger appetites go for the roast lamb, the moussaka (ground lamb casserole) and the spanakopita (phyllo dough stuffed with spinach and feta cheese).
Traditional Greek desserts are served, and the baklava is a standout; it's fresh, crisp and sweet.
