A great luncheon place within easy walking distance of downtown. – The Scene
Donnie's has a high-ceilinged large room, with a long bar sitting to one side. There are three dining areas, set off by wainscoting and ceramic tile walls, and pictures of Old Pittsburgh above the tile.
The menu centers on sandwiches and salads. The turkey sandwich is good, made with fresh roasted meat, never pressed roll. The Italian hoagie, served either hot or cold, is laden with deli meats, and a fresh salad topping. Homemade fresh potato chips are excellent, and there are also french-fried yams topped with brown sugar. Sounds odd, but tastes delicious.
If You Order One Thing
The turkey Reuben is a must. It's made with fresh turkey breast, swiss cheese, sauerkraut, and thousand island dressing grilled on marbled rye. For those who prefer a sweeter sandwich, try the Rachel, made with coleslaw instead of sauerkraut.
