the worst service in Pittsburgh – The service is slow and servants are not not friendly. We asked for extra basil sometimes, never come. Always throw the check on the table. not a good place to enjoy food. we have tried more than 70 places in Pittsburgh. This is the worst one.

Favorite by far – Tram's is where I go when I want to enjoy a meal, relax, and enjoy conversation with my husband, friends, or company. It's my favorite restaurant in Pittsburgh, by far. I love their food and really like that I can go in my work clothes, rather than feel like I have to get dressed to go out. The prices are good, I try not to go during peak hours, and I always feel satisfied when I leave. I have been going there for 11 years and Tram knows me as #17 with shrimp. (She smiles curiously if I order something different.) We love the fresh spring rolls and enjoy the ever-changing table cloths. At one point there were farm animals and chickens or something. Coconut milk and vermicelli noodles go with everything. When somebody asks where I want to go for a meal, it's always Tram's - even on special occassions. You don't have to spend a lot of money or sit in the dark to enjoy eating out. Did I mention that I can walk there? Bonus!

Not such a great pick – Now, I have to be fair, which is why I chose to give Tram's Kitchen 2 stars rather than 1. I've been there twice. The first time we were seated promptly and our food came out in a reasonable timeframe. We like to eat pho, but this pho was mediocre at best. Well, actually, it didn't taste nearly as good as any other pho I've had, excepting a white-people restaurant trying to pull of the soup. Last night we went again, were seated promptly, and only ordered pho again. "That's all?" the waiter asked, as if he were expecting us to order more. So why did we wait nearly an hour and still not see any food?? And no one updated us or apologized. My husband stood up to ask if our food would be coming but was given a curt answer. As we were leaving (not having been served anything but water), the guy chased us outside, asking why we were leaving, and telling us our food was ready. We couldn't stay any longer. We may have gone the entire night without dinner. All in all, I would not recommend this place to anyone. However, I've heard that Pho Minh is a good place to go for pho. That's our next try....

They Call this Vietnamese Food? – So here it goes...We ordered the spring rolls, egg rolls, Pho, Deep Fried Egg Noodles Combination meat, and Soft Fried Egg Noodles tofu. Being vietnamese, I was looking for how "mom" makes it and this come no where near close. We were seated right away but our meals did not come out until an hour later. The pho tasted like "Canh chua"...AKA...sour soup and they did not have any basil...uggh. The noodle dishes were mediocre at best. The owner came out and have the nerve to speak to us in Viet..."telling" us the food is good! I wanted to say "NO" but did not want to be rude. I am still looking for a good vietnamese restaurant in the Pittsburgh area where I will be able to take my parents when they come into town! Help!

I want to purchase stock in Tram's, it is so good! – I've been a frequenter of Tram's for over a year now. It's been a couple of month's since I've been there - but the owner knows our names and our usual order. It is incredible! I thought I loved Thai, Vietnamese blew me away. I thought "Pho, I don't want to order soup for dinner..." LOVE IT!

Highly recommended to vegetarians, healthy eaters (Lemongrass tofu is to die for). Best fresh spring rolls I've ever had (in many states, east coast and west). Support local, family owned business, and go there today (unless it's monday - they're closed).

PS - you may find the service "slow," but this is not an establishment to go to for a fancy, waiter-up-your-butt meal. this is good food. BYOB. enjoy the company you came with.

Best Asian Joint! People looking for "real" asian need not look further! – As a former cook of high end food...Nothing is better and more authentic. This is the choice for most Chefs looking for Lunch on the cheap without losing flavor.

tot lam viet! – After reading some of the reviews I was a little hesitant however, hadn't heard of it before, sooooooo...

A take-out meal for one, an afternoon between trips, the sun on my tailgate in Lawrenceville.

Having been a resident of VN (but American) and returning soon, I was interested in 'maybe' finding a decent VN restruant finally. So far the 'Burg has been a bust...until today! Pho is an entire culture unto itself, good Pho is the holy grail. Next time I will tell them to put everything in one container, with take-out you get a do-it-yourself meal, for 1 but enough for 2.

I was met by a smiling server, smiling woman in the kitchen, was given a small glass of tea while I waited. That is always a plus. I wondered about the price until I hefted the bag, 'choi io!' Then I actually made it 4 blocks until the aroma had me looking for a place to park, get out, drop the tailgate and go to work.

Ha Noi beef Pho and spring rolls:

Just enough mint in the broth to keep me very interested until the rest was added. The beef was perfect, chewy and solid, not rubber. The noodles were beyond perfect, good flavor and just 'sticky' enough for good chopstick work. The majority of the veggies were nice and fresh considering this is Pittsburgh in March, only the Basil was a little tough but nice flavor. The spring rolls were very fresh but the shrimp was the best they could do at this time of the year and here. I have found my VN lunch spot in Pittsburgh. Yes, I plan on stopping often and doing some sit-down eating there.

As for me Tam's Kitchen is number 1!

excellent healthy food – I love this restaurant. It is a small family owned casual restaurant. The food is fabulous and the value is great. It is less greasy and salty than most asian food. Excellent vegitarian dishes. It is BYOB.

Good, not great – Trams is good, and inexpensive. If you want authenticity, it's not the place to go, but you'll get a decent meal at a decent price. The spring rolls always seem to have hard leathery bits but are otherwise fine. The spicy shrimp (tomato-based) and rice is a good choice, and the soups are satisfying. The noodles tend to be overcooked.

OK food, Very poor services – I liked their spring rolls but was disappointed by their services. To start, the table was not so clean. They only take cash - no credit card, no debit card, no checks. ONLY cash. At the end of the meal I had to get out of the restaurant to look for ATM. What an embarrassment. When I finally paid the cash, they gave me wrong changes - $2 less. I hope that was a mistake, not a dirty trick.
