"Dr." Mantel is a joke. – I don't normally ever bother to take the time to write reviews about services, but my experience with Dr. Mantel at LensCrafters at Ross Park Mall in Pittsburgh was so unbelievable horrendous that I just had to let everyone know to NOT WASTE THEIR TIME AND MONEY on this awful, arrogant, condescending, worthless "doctor." I wish I could put less than one star.

I am severely near sighted and wear contacts and glasses. I see an optometrist every 6 months. LensCrafters had the potential to make a lot of money off of me, but now they'll never see so much as a red cent of my cash and that's all because of Dr. Mantel.

He did not introduce himself to me and immediately attacked and lectured me on disposable contacts and launched into a bizarre rant about how we "live in a disposable world" and that I could "probably wear a walnut shell on my eye and still be comfortable" all because I shared with his (RUDE) receptionist that I occasionally wear my disposable contacts past the suggested "dispose of" date. He seemed so personally offended by my "lack of proper care" for my eyes that his lip was literally curling up while talking to me.

When I asked him what type of contact lens would be best suited for me, he kept (literally) yelling "HARD CONTACTS, WHICH ARE OUT DATED, BUT SINCE YOU CAN WEAR A WALNUT SHELL (what?????), THEY MIGHT ACTUALLY WORK FOR YOU."

I let him know that I was about one more rude, arrogant, condescending remark away from leaving his office and notifying LensCrafters of his appalling behavior in representing their company. He then began the eye exam and told me to "read the lines." When I began reading the letters, he put his hand in front of the lens before I could finish.

It was at that point that I knew I did not want this man to have my business. I told him that I was leaving, and the bastard had the gall to literally block the doorway with his body so that I couldn't leave and CONTINUED to lecture me about "living in a disposable world." I quite literally had to yell at "Dr." Mandel to move out of my way or I would be calling 911, as I was now feeling threatened personally.

He moved enough for me to wrench the door open and I went into another room to put my contact lenses back in. While doing so, he stood in THAT doorway and again CONTINUED to lecture me about my contact lenses!! I asked him why he was still standing there and talking to me; was he trying to get me back into the appointment? was he really just that arrogant, condescending and clueless? His response was "Well, you're in my office, so I'm talking to you." At that point I was ready to leave and he again blocked the doorway. I'm still in shock at the behavior of this man.

I again told him to move himself and he said he wanted to "watch me" to "make sure that I wasn't going to steal anything...since I seem to want things for free." ?????? THIS MAN IS SO BIZARRE. I let him know my thoughts and stormed out, fuming and in complete disbelief of how I was treated.

DO NOT GO TO "DR." MANTEL. I'm not even positive this man has a legitimate degree in Optometry. I suggested to him that by his behavior and bizarre responses, it seems as though he bullied someone into giving him an honorary degree. LensCrafters is being horribly, horribly represented by this man. What an @sshole, in every sense of the word,

Beware of bullying tactics – I would NOT recommend this office for any eye examination. The doctor was arrogant and disdainful at my questions about his examination of my eyes. I wanted specific answers -- but he seemed to feel they were unneccessary and bothersome.

As for his staff -- no patient should put up with that bullying either. This was my conversation with his "nurse/assitant" at the desk:

"I would like my contact lens prescription please."

"Would you like a six-month or year supply?"

"Just my prescription, I am ordering elsewhere."

"No you're not."

"Yes I am!"

"NO, you're not.

If it's a cost factor, I'll match anyone else's prices."

"You'll match COSTCO?"

"My contact lens prescription please."

Worst Lenscrafters – Two things: First, brought in a new frame, asked them to put in a lens that had fallen out, these crooks put the lens in but used a different screw (never did give back the original frame's screw) and damaged the screw holes by misaligning the frame in order to jam the lens in and make it fit. They take your frames to the room in the back, jack with it, and then some 18-year old girl hands it back to you and you never get to talk to the drop-outs who messed your frame up.

That's all I feel comfortable sharing with you all right now, but with the 3 distinct times I have had with them for frame adjustments and repairs, they always hand the frame back in worse condition than before. They are not real opticians back there - they are high school drop-outs who pride themselves in only being able to do basic repair jobs like putting a nose pad back in and are not honest nor capable enough to do anything even remotely optical. Terrible Lenscrafters. I have had a better experience with other ones so there is something about the culture in this one that encourages incompetence, no communication between the back and the front, and laziness. Pearle Vision on McKnight Road is better.

Dr. Mantel and staff are TERRIBLE – Give your business to anyone else. Both the female associate and Doctor Mantel are pompous, disrespectful and rude. Female associate lied to my face that if my contacts didn't work they could be brought back, but failed to mention that I can only get store credit which was useless once the original contacts irritated my eyes. The doctor took my revisit as a person insult and was aggravated that they didn't work, hey I didn't give myself the eye exam! I tried to work with these people but they refuse to be reasonable. Calling corporate tomorrow, save yourself the hassle.

Seriously, go to anyone else that won't treat you like crap and lie to your face. I wish I had.
