like it & Love it. – Our first trip to Taj Mahal. Few of our friends have been going on a regular basis and had invited us few times, but something always came up. Not this past weekend.

In rain and a crowd waiting to get in our first impression was to turn around and go back but curiosity got the better of us and we decided to wait.

Definately place needs expansion.

Owners serving food and bringing fresh bread ( Naan) is something i have not seen anywhere in US. They were worried if we had enough food, if everything was as expected, though the portions are so huge that me and my wife have decided not to get excited and order 5 items. ( it was enough for 10 people). We loved the family environment. A bottle of Merlot with Baked Chicken Tandoori and fresh bread is from another world. Now i know where we will be going for most of our saturdays. Also the best part !!!!! having a discussion with the owners Nephew who is a whiz kid in computers. So here was my evening in a nut shell. Best chicken, best wine and solved a Linux Server base issue.

Excellent Food – We just moved from chicago to Pittsburgh. My both kids are nuts about Indian food.

Though there was nothing the kids liked but the owners made a special request and made special plates for Josh and Katherine.

Though they are going through a huge renovation but everything was perfect. The owners came to our table couple of times asking if things were ok.

We fully enjoyed it and will be back many a times more.

One of the best restaurants visited in a long time – I have been to many Indian restaurants in the area but i always end up going back to TAJ MAHAL on mcknight road.

I cannot wait for the renovation to be over and continue to enjoy the service and food. I had malai kofta and Burayyani that was from out of this world.

Keema naan was excellent with mango lassi.

5 thumbs up..

Not just a bad day – I never write reviews, but this was hands down the worst restaurant experience I have ever had. Our food seemed to take forever, and like the last review our daughter's food came out about 15 minutes before ours did. The service was horrible and slow. It was impossible to get our waiters attention and when we did we always had to wait awhile for what we asked for or ask again. We had to ask twice for a refill on our sodas and I guess most people don't ask since once we got the bill we realized that we were charge $1.50 for each soda, no free refills. What a rip off for a fountain drink soda.

Now for the worst part. They bring out little dishes of sauces to put on flat crispy bread. There are spoons in the the sauces, but we did just dip some things in there including my daughters chicken fingers so she could try the sauce. Once we were done we watched the waiter take these little dishes directly from our table and give them to another table that had just arrived. We watched him do this yet again with another table so so it was not a mistake but apparently a common practice at this restaurant. The place wasn't too clean to begin with, but that was just GROSS. We use to go here a lot, but it has gone incredibly downhill. LAST TIME I WILL EVER EVER GO TO THE TAJ MAHAL!

Bad service – We've been to this place a few times since moving to the Pittsburgh area a year ago. Being huge fans of Indian food, we will admit that it's usually pretty good. This time however, the food was dry and cold and the service was appalling.

From the moment we came in, we weren't greeted; a man pointed at a table and without a word, walked away. The waiter didn't say hello, he just came over and grunted, "what do you want." The waitress didn't fill our water or anyone else's (I watched how they were interacting with the other tables) during the entire meal, even when we asked. My meal was brought out 15 minutes before the person I was with got his....so my food was cold by the time we were both eating (since I came to the place to eat with my friend, not 15 minutes before). The plates were dirty and the glasses had brown, floaty things in them.

We're both clean-cut business men. We are well mannered and smile often; so there was not reason to be treated the way were were treated, though as I mentioned earlier, the tables around us were getting the same treatment.

A friend of ours mentioned that maybe they were having a bad day. That's fine. But don't have a bad day when we're paying for it. We will not return and will tell others of our extremely negative experience.

Friendly service, unique cuisine – I visited Taj Mahal once w/ my gf for a new experience. The menu is looooooong. It was a bit daunting for someone who has never experienced Indian food before (me). But I was very happy with my selection. I tried the Chicken Tandoori. My gf had the Chicken Tikka Masolla (sp). You get a lot of food for the price. The presentation was excellent. The taste is difficult for me to describe because I am not accustomed to Indian flavors. However, it was delicious!

Will go back! – My 1st experience with Indian food was at the "Taj Mahal" , NYC, East Village. I've been back there a couple times, but wanted to find a good Indian restaurant closer to home. Read the reviews for several places in Pittsburgh, chose the Taj Mahal. I was not disappointed. The beef curry was excellent and I had enough to take some home. I want to try the various chicken dishes, as this restaurant seems to be known for them.

Thank You Taj Mahal – In my opinion, Pittsburgh is one of the livable towns for this reason – it boasts of a top rated Indian Restaurant named ‘ Taj Mahal’, unparallel in the entire country, may be the entire world would be an understatement (it would not be an exaggerated statement). The name ‘Taj Mahal’ originated from the famed “Taj Mahal” in Agra, India. (Taj means unsurpassed). So also is this restaurant. The unbelievable food that is served here is top class! The wide variety of freshly made dishes served daily during luncheon buffet is unavailable elsewhere in the country, for such a throw away price! The most gracious host, lady-owner, Usha Sethi, is wedded to quality at all times, sparing no effort. Almost always, she is behind the doors in the kitchen (come rain, come shine). She is concocting something new, something old, something different and something delicious always! Never a dull-meal! I have been a vegetarian for a long time and have never found even in Indian food such creative cuisine and so delectable! When my daughter left Pittsburgh after five years of training, we felt that the most that would be missed or rather irreplaceable would be this extraordinary frugal gourmet which truly is a feast fit for kings offered every single day of the week for a nominal price, during luncheon buffet. The amazing lady’s passion for cooking and dedicated service blend to make it a unique place (in the past, present and future). It certainly be incomplete without the noteworthy mention of the equally note worthy gracious host, Subhash Sethi, and the two rays of sunshine – the young girls on staff also tireless and who never fail to beam bright and sweet at us. The owners are a source of inspiration no doubt! It is a nice place to be . May this Taj Mahal bloom and grow and thrive for ever feasting one and all for a long time to come. May the all merciful God grant you all a healthy hindered years or more! Wishing you always success/very best. A highly pleased customer – Suchitra Neravetla.

best buffet and service with a smile! – I decided to try Taj Mahal out today with my daughter after reading several good and a few not so good reviews on this site. I have to say the less than stunning reviews that i read must have been from some pretty uneducated diners! As it was my first trip to this restaurant we decided to try the buffet to experience as many dishes as we could. Normally I prefer to order off the menu since buffet food usually seems to be of less quality. Not so with the Taj Mahal! It is generally considered that when you experience a new food style that if you like 2 out of 3 items you have had a stellar experience. This was my teenage daughters first foray into Indian food and she could not find an item she (or I) did not love. Service was excellent and i found the bustle of the waitstaff almost entertaining! Even though there were no empty seats in in the house my water glass was never less than full and every look was met with a smile. I highly recommend the Taj Mahal for any diner especially those who want to experience high quality authentic Indian dishes for the first time.
