Too much blowdrying – First my husband booked an appointment for me and my daughter. They confirmed the appointment a day before but when my husband took my daughter there they told him that they hairstylist is sick and that they left a message, which my husband never received. He ended up leaving work early just to bring my daughter, who is 9 to do a haircut. They couldn?t find anyone to cut her hair (talk about quality customer service) so they had to leave but I stayed for my style. How long does it take to give a 9 year old a haircut. The lady who did my hair was extremely nice but seemed to be less knowledgeable about doing hairstyles. All I wanted to do is to layer my hair since it?s been over a year since I had layers. She did some nice layers in front but I had to ask her to make 3 more layers in the back (she should have known that). She took about 20 minutes to blowdrying every inch of my hair, pulling my neck all the time (which was funny to me, but I didn?t tell her to stop). This type of hair cut I could have gotten anywhere, there is nothing fancy about the salon even if they give you free tea. The receptionist or the girl who was walking around all the time has too much pride and thinks she is so hot, every time she walked by I wanted to laugh because it seemed that her confidence level was too high, even my husband noticed that. She wasn?t much friendly and had a bit of attitude but I didn?t want to waste my time on her. All I know is that I?m not coming back there?Good luck.
Hair disaster – Yesterday I went in for blond highlights, came out looking like Big Bird. Yellow, no streaking, just yellow all over. I'm not someone who cares that much about my hair. I just wanted to look especially good for an interview. But I signed up on City Search just to write this review. I need to get emergency corrective color. Oh... my... god. And the styling - I was embarassed just to walk up to the front counter. All curly on the left and almost straight on the right. Not intentional; the stylist just gave up. I went out looking so much worse than when I went in. What happened to this place? Best of 2006? Does that mean anything??
Update - I called first thing this morning to ask them to correct the superbad coloring I got yesterday. Get this - the only way they will do it is if I go back to the stylist who created the problem in the first place. They won't offer to have anyone else make time for me. I gave them a chance to fix the mistake, and they failed. I feel hung out to try.
Pearlyn Rocks! – I've been going to Oxenrose for about 3 years. Pearlyn was my first stylist there who got me hooked. Sometimes our schedules don't match so I've had to go to somebody else. Sandy was pretty good and the other two were horrible! Now I have to schedule in advance to make sure I'm with Pearlyn. She does great highlights and excellent cuts that last. The type of cut that keeps getting better as it grows and highlights that people keep asking if you just got your hair done 2 months afterwards. She makes the 2-3 hour appt fly bye with lots of laughs and fun conversation. Customer service at the front can vary. Pearlyn listens to what you want and really takes her time. I just wish she worked more days!
Trendy comfortable with Great Hair Colorists and Stylists – I was highly impressed, was actually able to book a same day app for both two colors, cut and style ( I've never had to do same day but this was an "emergency". and I was taken care of promptly) I rarely change hairdressers, once I find someone good and I have been quite lucky keeping hairdressers for decades ! My hairdresser moved causing me to find someone new. I had the fortunate experience of Christie's expert talent and skils where she colored, highlighted, cut and styled the most perfect look for me! A side note, in adjusting to one another with the first app. my highlights were great but I was looking for more of a contrast, she actually solved that problem and added more darkness to a couple of the highlights, so she took the extra time to make it perfect and to make me satisfied. I will definitely go back as I have found my new hairdresser in Christie! Thank you, Christie, thank you, Oxenrose!
Hmmmm....it took me a year to grow it out – I don't want to be harsh, but when you have thin, blonde, and lifeless hair, perhaps the best thing is not to cut so many layers that would be more appropriate for long curly hair. I was really disappointed in my cut because it wasn't appropriate for my type of hair, and took so terribly long to grow out. I'm now looking for a new hairstylist, but wouldn't even consider Oxen Rose because of the one cut I got there. They are nice, and it's a cool looking salon, but......enough said!
The best value for a haircut/style in the city – I've been in the city and have been to many of the higher end salons in city. However, I've found that it is hard to justify a $60+ (w/o tip) haircut every couple of months. I read the reviews on citysearch and found Oxenrose and thought I might check it out. It's a little less expensive ($40+) and you still get the same (oftentimes better) haircut/style than at a higher-priced salon and in a very friendly, laid-back atmosphere.
I've been going to see Rain for about a year and half now and have converted my wife, sister, wife's sister and wife's friend to Oxenrose. Rain even did the hair for my and my wife's wedding. She's fantastic and a very sweet and enjoyable hairstylist - the kind of person who tmakes having a relationship with her clients just as important as the haircut itself. I would highly recommend her though have had tmy hair cut by others there and would say they are also good.
I read all the reviews and even the not-so-good ones. Every hairstylist is different so I can't speak for everyone there and I have had a couple of times where I've needed to reschedule my appointment, but they have always called in advance and done what they could to fit me in at another time. While, there were a few people who had bad experiences, I would say (and you could see by the reviews) they are few and far between. Needless to say, Oxenrose and Rain get my highest recommendation, hands down. Hope that this can convert a few more folks out there.
Hip salon with reasonable prices – Lynn is the best. My mother and i followed her from her previous salon and can say we really like Oxenrose. Unpretentious and welcoming is how i would describe this place. Lynn is super busy and requires 1+ appointments but totally worth it. I love that they are open on Sundays. I have also had Rox do my hilites and she was also awesome. I really like the atmosphere here and am glad to have found this place.
Loved Lynn and Amy!! – I am a busy gal, and thus, had been rocking some less-than-commendable locks for quite a while. But I love to make hair changes now and then. So before the newest school year kicked off, my wonderful, thoughtful husband called Oxenrose after he heard the women with whom he works talk about their favorite salons in the city. He made an appointment for me with Lynn (and left his credit card #) and surprised me with the hair makeover I had been talking about getting for several months. I was unsure about what specific color change I wanted , and Lynn offered me several great suggestions about color and explanations of why they would work for me . She chose shades that would be durable over the next few months of med school and told me that I could come in for an inexpensive gloss to refresh my hair when I am short on time/money. I absolutely loved the outcome, and felt that Lynn spent a lot of time and attention with me.
I received a gift certificate to Oxenrose for Christmas and am waiting for the time I can get away from clinics/books to "make my hair over" again. I will definitely go to Lynn, as she is sensitive to not only hair and skin types, but also to lifestyles that maintain the new hair color. I am SO thankful for having Lynn as a great colorist and for having a husband who ensures I am pampered.
Update- Amy also rocks, she's a miracle worker with color and color correction! Took out some nasty brown that I had self-inflicted on myself and gave me a glimmering honey-blonde highlighted mane for summer, without frying or breaking my hair. She is Fantastic!
The ultrahip hair artistes at this chic Hayes Valley salon will render you fabulous. – In Short
The stylists at this neighborhood salon specialize in creating looks that are flattering, outrageous and ultrachic. The price of the services depends on the individual stylist's rates, but haircuts start at $40, coloring at $60 and perms at $85. They also specialize in Fudge dyes, which can transform your tresses into shades of deep-sea blue or hot and wild red. Included in every service is a free and magnificent head massage.
Amy is the Best! – So I went to Oxenrose after having had a few disapointing highlight jobs done somewhere else. I was nervous, because I kept hating my hair each time I left the salon. Finally! Amy at Oxenrose gave me the greatest highlights ever! She is a genius and I almost gave her a hug. Everyone there is amazing and so nice. I swear they offered me something to drink five times and the D.J. there made the whole experience complete.
I would recommend this salon and Amy in particular to anyone and everyone!
