Frank Lloyd Wright's architectural masterpiece is considered one of the greatest domicile creations of the 20th century. – The Appeal
Nestled in the idyllic woods of southwestern Pennsylvania, this unparalleled product of genius was built in 1935 as a weekend getaway home for Pittsburgh department store mogul Edgar J. Kaufmann and his family. One of its primary allures is that the sandstone (native to the area) structure is built over a waterfall--taking the idea of "organic architecture" to new aesthetic heights.
Visit the Christian W. Klay Winery in nearby Chalk Hill and sample some of the wines from its National Road Collection. Taking photos is not permitted indoors, but there are plenty of great photo ops outdoors. Kentuck Knob, another of Wright's residential creations, is nearby.
