An evening at this gorgeous showplace can feel like a journey to Mecca. – In Short
The 1917 building, originally called Islam Temple, was designed by Thomas Patterson Ross for Shriners' ceremonies and meetings. The building features exotic mosaics, tile floors and other Moorish details in keeping with the Shriners' Arabic motif. Those details were meticulously preserved when the building took over the theatrical functions of the old Alcazar Theatre on O'Farrell Street during the 1970s.
