knowledgeable staff, expensive consult fees. not a win-win situation. – If you don't mind paying through nose for a checkup, Dr. Dahlem is your doctor. She's nice and knowledgeable, but I checked around and her consult fees are 2x what her peers charge. I highly recommend requesting fee information BEFORE your appointment to avoid the sticker shock of Dr. Dahlem's exhorbitant fees.
Devastating cosmetic work – STAY AWAY FROM THIS MAN! Please!
I went to receive a dermal filler treatment from Dr. Matarraso (restylane). He gave me completely uneven injections, making my smile lines completely lopsided and assymetrical. I called the office and asked if I could go back in to have a touch-up for them to be evened out, and they were very accomodating and let me come in that day.
I went in, and the first thing that the doctor said to me was that the first job was the best that he could do, that i was being ridiculous and didn't know what i was talking about, and if I wanted better, I should go elsewhere, but that he would touch them up anyways. I felt as if I were being scolded and torn apart for simply asking that the job that i payed for be done correctly.
Not only did he "touch up" what he had originally done, he completely "overcorrected" it, to the point where half of my face looks lie I was punched in the side of the head... completely swollen! My right cheek looks like a chipmunk, while the left side looks completely normal. MY face is now completely assymetrical, and will remain so until the product begins to reabsorb over the course of the next few months.
Not only that, he was unbelievably rude and condescending to me, and told me never to come back again.
I have no doubt that he overdid it to get back at me for criticizing his work. I never had any intentions of insulting or offending him. I just asked that he finish the job that he had started.
He is an arrogant, self-absorbed, vindictive and cruel man.
PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE STAY AWAY FROM HIM.
I'm completely devastated. He ruined my face and there's nothing to be dome about it until it naturally reabsorbs in several months time.
PLEASE don't let this happen to you!
The GOOD and the BAD – This is my first time doing this, but I had to say something when I saw the other reviews while looking for his phone number.
The Good: This man really is a great doctor and knows skin.
The Bad: He is ALWAYS late! I think they try to run on time- last time the woman at the front desk told me to call before coming to try to minimize my wait. I'm going to try that next month.
Last time I decided not to go back and saw someone else on the peninsula, who my girlfriend sees, and it was horrible! I waited just as long, he seemed annoyed with me for needing a follow up and refill, and they didn't take my insurance!
(I'm not addicted to the dermatologists office- I swear!
I'm on Accutane- so I have to go every month)
He is Amazing at what he does- and the staff makes me feel comfortable.
I was going to take away two stars, but on second thought, he has had the same nurse since I was a teenager, who always remembers me; to me that says a lot.
Best Dermatologist – Yes, you may have to wait a long time. But he is a great doc and has always fit me in at the last minute when I have had those little emergencies that can't wait 4 weeks. He can tell whats going on with me with out a lot of fuss within minutes. I've seen other doctors in town and was never really happy feeling like I was just paying to buy more perscriptions! I was was referred to dr. m by a friend and have never been happier with my derm care.
Don't Bother – The title of this review says it all. Don't waste your time with this guy. Like "an inconvenient truth," I gave Dr. M two chances and both experiences were very unpleasant. I arrived on time (or slightly early) for both appointments. Yet, both times, I sat in the waiting room for 30-45 minutes, then I waited another 10-20 minutes in the examination room. That's 40-65 minutes of waiting before I even saw the guy. He breezed into the room, totally unapologetic, spent no more than 3 minutes with me, and tried to get me to come back for 3 separate appointments to finish an uncomfortable procedure that should be handled in 1 visit. I have my suspicions for why he'd do that, but I'm not willing to find out. As if that weren't bad enough, the nurse I had both times was rude and dismissive and totally lacking any bedside manner. I'll never go back. I'm not the type to go to the trouble of giving a review, good or bad, but Dr. M is so bad that I felt obligated to do so. Save yourself the aggravation and go somewhere else.
Do NOT go to Seth Matarasso ever – I saw him twice (what can I say, I always give second chances). Both times, he
- was 25-30 minutes late and never apologized for his lateness
- was visibly in a rush and concerned about getting me in and out as fast as possible
- as annoyed by me asking any questions (it takes 10 seconds to answer, and he can't bill me extra for those)
- tried to sell expensive treatments, and never expressed any concerns for any insurance coverage
DON'T GO THERE
Dr. Seth L. Matarasso is somebody you want to avoid if you are normal – I visited Dr. Seth L. Matarasso for a consultation to see what kind of doctor he is. He made me wait for at least 30 minutes, came for a few minutes
and told me very quickly and without explanations that he can not help me.
However, HE DID BILL ME. The amount that he asked me to pay was $181. I was not told I will be billed this amount. I did not expect this charge for no service rendered and refused to pay. However, the doctor reported it to the collection agency and now it sits on my credit report. I contacted the collection agency, and the agent on the phone said that
I need to call a phone number, which he gave me over the phone.
I did call this phone number, but could not get in touch with anybody
in the office, even though I was waiting for very long time on the phone.
I consider this to be an extremely unfair record on my credit history.
I do not have any other negative records ever.
I think, I need to go to court with this.
This kind of medical service is a shame!
Like most of the people here I say: do not ever go to him.
User review by michellelark – I have seen several dermatologists in LA and NY as my mom passed away from melanoma a few years ago. I have mole screenings every six months and travel back and forth frequently. Dr. Matarasso found a melanoma on me that none of the other doctors saw and fit me into his busy schedule to have surgery in the same week! He didn't reccomend expensive products (I've spents hundreds with the other doctors) just some easy to use perscriptions that work! I truly believe he saved my life and now my sisters come into town just to see him.
Not recommended – I went in to see Dr. Matarosso, hoping to get a recommendation on a skin care regime that would help prevent and hopefully reduce signs of aging. He recommended botox, which I do not want, and did not have any other recommendation to provide. His bedside manner was poor and it seemed clear all he wanted to do was try to sell botox and collect the payment from insurance for the brief 5 minute-visit I had.
