First Class – First of all the review from rexferel on 8/19/2011 should be completly ignored. It's a dam shame that whoever he or she is has a vendetta against this place and should be sued for liable. My wife and I stumbled accross this place 10 years ago and have had many happy times there. We have met people from all over Pennsylvania who travel many miles to enjoy the food, atmosphere and the hospitality of the owners who have shown us a great time everytime we go. In ten years nothing on our table was ever sent back and if it was it was because we over ordered. We travel 50 miles to get there and it is well worth the trip. We are not relatives, We are not owners of another restaurant. We are 2 patrons of this place who are a bit upset that some idiot would write that kind of a review that only rewiews his warped personality.

I should have known......... – First of all, if your reading this right now, do you not think the review before this one might have been written by someone invested in this establishment? Like so many others (it seems) i had heard nothing but good things about this place. I should have trusted my gut instinct that nothing in scumbia, pa could be of any worth. Against my better judgement and an extremely low blood sugar level, i decided to deviate from my monotonous but comfortable nihilistic existence. When i got there with my wife, the people in front of us looked pissed and left shortly thereafter. I was later met with the ruminating aroma of body odor from the older man. Being in columbia and expecting this much, i pressed on. No worries, I have reservations. Last name? This was confirmed by pointing at the nearest printed object by a computer. More waiting. Went to the bar. stayed at the bar because it seemed easier. was given the wrong beer. still trying to conceal my contempt for the incompetent bartender from the wife. she asked which bottled beers were available in the cooler and her response was an exhaustive attempt to recite beers he may have heard ordered in the past 3 hours. i ordered the prime rib, he had to check to see if they had it. Nope. The food they did have available was ok and delivered around the start of friday night karaoke. Old drunk men singing jonny cash songs was fun 10 years ago. Why am i still here. My blood sugar is now stable enough to realize that every decision i had made up until that time was carried out in a delusional state of psychosis and i am now feeling well enough to leave this place. Ignoring every "tell-tale" sign of an anxiety attack, i left this establishment feeling confused about my station in life and angry that marijuana is still illegal in the state of pennsylvania. I will be canceling my plans for saturday because this night has taken so much from me, i feel as though i might not ever get it back. this experience was summarized on a non-itemized receipt that simply had a numerical monetary amount printed on it. i guess this cost $60?

Great Review by Washington Post, Phantom Diner & More! – 1st, must say...Heart of the Bayou comes with melt in the mouth catfish-3 nice size strips, doesn't come with (correct spelling)jambalaya-comes with "real" seafood gumbo & not six, but 5 good sized plump shrimp with juicy crawfish tails all in a delightfully seasoned chopped garlic 'n butter "scampish" dish. The homemade hushpuppies are amazing with premise made honey butter-melt in the mouth! What is nice-no grease as all are prepared the right way! The clam strips are great in the homemade tartar sauce and the "frizzled" onions are so good, some folks order just baskets of them to munch on with beer. And if you're there late enough many times FREE baskets come out to the bar ....yum! There is NO "crabby patty" on the menu...a Crabby Pork-an all tme customer fav! Two seasoned grilled pork loin slices with crab layered in between and a silky fire roasted pepper cream sauce with crab drizzled over top! Too yummy! It is NOT a sandwich....although what is really cool that the State of Pa. featured in their "Pursuits Magazine" is the Cajun Whoopy Pie! Incredibly sweet corn bread top & bottom with crab filling and a creamy dreamy mushroom sauce on the side. If you pour that on top and soak it in-WOW! Google the mag from winter 2010 and see the pictures, etc. -a 4 pg. spread. So you see-propaganda to say untruths is the main downfall of the internet! After 21 years in bizz. these folks really do it right! Catering is in the order of things too-from the Governors Mansion, Lauxmont Farms, high end to back yard BBQ's. And the music is great too! Go and see for yourselves-this is the place to go for polished casual dining!

Bad Food – I ordered the "Heart of the Bayou" seafood platter. I was brought a few small pieces of blackened catfish, 6 shrimp, and some clam strips all buried under a big pile of "straw onions" and two huge hush puppies". The small cup of jumbalaya was cold. This whole meal was exceedinly greasy and for $22, I was expecting a lot more seafood and not so much filler. The other people in my party were not too happy with their selections either - the crabby patty had some weird sauce that just didn't belong in the sandwich. Stay away from this place.

Skip it – We were a group of 8 from a meetup, Many of us were quite excited after hearing good things about this place.

It took a bit till our apps came, sauteed gator had great flavor but is really chewy, The oysters with crab was tasty, cajun whoopie pie was good, it was a corn muffin with creamy crab, the corn muffin was really good and was the best part of my meal.

The shrimp Sunny is in a tomato sauce that was so bland, like watered down tomatoes, not even salt.

The Crabby Pork had creamy crab like the whoppie pie, had a dry pork loin and was served with mashed potaoes, weird.

The Rice and Beans had ham and sausage and was tasty, nice flavors

The jambalaya was cold, bland and dry

The Seafood Gumbo had no seafood that I could see or okra, olny onion and celery and was tastless except for a little hot spice.

I cant tell you about the crab louis, it took so long the woman who ordered had to leave and took it to go.

Between the Apps and Entree it took over an hour. They bought us a round of drinks while we waited. IF the food is really good you can overlook alot of other faults but this scored low all around.

You should skip it, really.

One star is 2 too many.. and no okra or crawdads?!? – I was really excited to see Cajun food up here with such shining reviews. Unfortunately I don't think anyone that works there or that has reviewed the place has ever actually eaten Cajun before. Being my first (and last) time there, I ordered something somewhat cajun (broiled oysters with lump crab meat), something EXTREMELY cajun ( bowl of gumbo) and my wife got a house creation (cajun pasta.) Everything was bland and runny. The only redeeming and slightly authentic part of the meal was my Abita Turbodog. Needless to say, I didn't stick around to try the whiskey bread pudding if it was even offered on the menu...

If you like cajun food, this is the place to go! – The restaurant area was non smoking, but the smell was very strong from the bar area, I left smelling like a cigarette! The bar area needs a better system to remove the smoke.

Doesn't get any better!! – Wow-can I get a room here? This is so neat, 108yr. old hotel and such a fun and wonderful place to eat, snack, drink, listen to live blues or check out monday night football with cool 1/2 time eats-and my dreams came true-they are opening 7 DAYS a week-about time!
