Huge Portions, Great Flavor – During a recent visit to SF, my husband and I were wandering around Chinatown late one night looking for a place to have dinner. Far East was the first place we came across, it looked nice from the outside, so we stopped in. We were seated immediately at one of the tables and were enjoying the interesting decor (the chandeliers with multicolored bulbs are awesome) while perusing the menu, but our waitress was quite pushy in having us make our selections (she calmed down after that and was fine). We had the pork potstickers to start (8 of them huge, with a very chewy (in a good way) dough and good filling -- didn't really care for the sauces they came with though, some kind of chili oil and white vinegar). The hot and sour soup was great (and huge as well, a small serving gave us both 2 bowls with some left over) -- heavy on the sour -- even my husband, who doesn't usually like hot and sour soup enjoyed this dish! We also got the beef satay noodle clay tureen, which was great -- I think that the vegetables and the sauce were the star -- the silky vermicelli noodles didn't need the beef at all (huge again, we had about a quarter of it left over). We came in pretty hungry and left VERY full with only a small dent on our credit card. I would recommend this restaurant to a large group, since you would need one to actually finish all of the food you're given!
Birds nest soup isn't bad – Came here for an awards ceremony. The food they ordered, potstickers, egg roll - were good, not special. There was a saucy pork & vegts dish over rice (not great), roast pork (ok, at least it wasn't over-salted), braised white chicken (undercooked), saucy meat over fried chow mein (fair) and the best was the birdsnest soup. It was full of flavor and had lots of birdsnest in it. Some places are much more frugal.
An old favorite – Lots of good food at reasonable prices. Get a few dishes and share them if you're there with a group.
