My experience. I purchased a Mammoth Ivory carved tusk from Bonamiko's. I did have some problems with he sales staff. They were over enthusiastic and make some promises that were not true. I could not return the item as promised. I advise anyone that has questions regarding returns or exchanges to speak with Menashe the owner. He is very personable and a good man. Ultimately, He was able to make the me happy and save the day.
RUN AWAY!!!!!. BEWARE! They are now called BONAMIKO'S and MICHAELS located at the Gatewway of CHINA TOWN These guys are really good at what they do...SCREWING the customer. Like so many we where told they where going out of business and changing their fathers store to a Jewelry store and that they where having an auction in the next hour or so. Funny but we where there for over 2 HOURS and No Auction! They follow you around and write down items they think you like and then the PRESSURE! Oh we will "GIVE" you the "in stock" "MASS PRODUCTION" items for 90% off but will have to ship them. The items that they pressure you into that are in the store and "RARE" will be shipped out immediatly. They took our 300.00 deposit and after getting home and doing some checking we where not comfortable with what we heard and so we told them we just wanted the Mass Production items and they told us they came from the manufacturer and had no idea when they would be shipped. ODD when they said they owned a warehouse full of these items. So the KEPT our 300.00 and never recieved ANYTHING, we cannot get them to even respond to our inquiries! One in store item that they wrote up was a JADE sculpture item and after reading that other customers had recieved FAKE jade sculptures we checked into them even further, and decided NOT to do the C.O.D for over 3,000.00 more. I agree with the person from the UK, this should NOT be allowed to go on in the USA!! These guys are crooks and need to be stopped! They have to feed on tourists because anyone that lives there would catch on to the scheme! They are also in with the two MICHAELS stores a few doors down on both corners, SAME thing there! Said Christies Acution house was coming to auction off the inventory so they would RATHER sell to a customer that would appreciate the item so they would give a FABULOUS deal! BS! RUN AWAY!! Contact anyone that will listen including TV, RADIO, NEWSPAPERS!!! IKf I lived in S.F I would try to get an EXPOSE' on them with hidden camera's!!
if you think it is of value, it won't be!.
there are nine shops in SF are the same Italian family - all those negative reviews, everything they say, I have experienced - our father 90 , has just died, travelled the world, bought from the forbidden city etc, etc etc tax man coming, got to get rid, setting up a diamond buisness already got one in Manhatten, - DA's office not much help unless your invoice says jade or mammoth - most pieces will be bone of some sort, jade certainly won't be jade - whatever you have bought will only be woth 10's of dollars at most. All lies, lies, lies and more lies - beware, beware - in the UK they would never be able to get away with this in a downtown part of a famous city - welcome to free enterprise in the widest sense USA style - your consumer protection laws are very weak. I was well and truly done. As one previous person commented, they should all be in jail.
Will you be next?!! Leaves a very nasty taste in ones mouth - will I ever come back to the USA after this experience?
adding more after seeing the latest review
Every word here is true - they should be prosecuted and shut down. All the chinese artifacts are sourced from a company called SPLENDID JADE CO.,LIMITED. They deal in artifacts created for the tourist trade - airport antiques - you can see a customs consignment of crates in 2007 which were delivered to Michaels. Most of the bone carvings are coming via this company from Beijing, again stuff for the tourist trade. I went to the police - didn't want to know, went to the DA's office, but their hands are tied unless you have good documentation and you won't because the bastards know what they are doing, went to the FBI - they were interested but as they said if you prosecute one of them, another will take their place. Consumer laws in the USA need to be tightened up with a 14 day 'cooling off period' as in the UK. I would help with any investigation.
Similarly to other people who wrote here, we got a similar sales pitch. I think that there are some people who will find it off-putting, others will find it intriguing. After traveling the world for a while, this pitch was nothing unusual.
Bottom line - for us that is - we got what we paid for. It did take them a few days more than promised to deliver the items. But, we received everything, with tons of packing and wrapping material.
Someone here mentioned that they sell fake things. We bought a mammoth tusk. We took it to a professional to examine it, and it is exactly what they told me. Not sure though what the others purchased.
Pushy sales tactics.
They great you like you are an old friend. Tell you how rare there furniture is and how much it costs. But for you because I want you to be my sale for today, we can give you this $7000 Real silk, hand made rare colored carpet for only $2500 USD, in fact take 2 for $5500.....good deal just for you. We need everything to go cause we want to open a diamond and jewllery store.....everything is being sold cheap cheap......and we will ship to you free!
And oh by the way we are the first store in China town, home of the best fake goods in the world.
There is no rating cause these people should be in jail.
Rasoylis has changed name to Bonamiko's.
They told us the owner who was 90s and just passed away, so they have to sell everything in the store. They told us the dealers are coming to the store in 45 min. We have to buy the items before they come. They make it seems like we got a great deal, reducing the price from $5200 to $350.
We bought a jade horse and found out that it is fake. It is made out of marble like material.
The store is also rated' F' in BBB.
I wish I should have done my homework first.
Some fake item, beware.
Two months ago, bought two items here for believe good price. Item selling person told us price of item was very large. He could give discount because he want to sell all items from store.
After long discussion, price seemed very good, less than 20% of start!
After delay, afraid that items would not arrive, but items come. Art dealer relative immediately understood the fake. Paid to have other inspected to see, it was real. Even if I go to California, then no return of any item and do not know what to do!!!
Think that store sells many fake and real items, but all for high price. Experience buying person only!
after months of searching, I finally found the right poker table!!! it was more expencive than other tables I've seen, but this one is a beauty!
received it after two weeks.
bought it in Jan, and it still looks just fine.
I'm a simple man, with a simple plan. walked around town on St. Partick's, and walked in. Bought two paintings for my office. The rest of the furniture doesn't really fit my home/office/personal taste...The paintings are great, and were delivered in no time.
Four stars because there's no access to wheelchairs, except for the first floor. And for me, there weren't a lot of items that I would consider having.
drove up to SF on a saturday, and walked around town with a few friends. we entered this store in china town. there's a great selection of home furnishings. We really liked some of the paintings, and one of my friends fancied a dinning room table. I personaly got only a painting, but my friends told me that the delivery guys came to her summer house and assembled it exactly where she wanted it and helped her to move other furniture around until she was satisfied.
I've read the other reviews here, and I was a bit shocked because my expreience with this store was just perfect. no bulshit, no headaches, we spent a nice amount of money there, and felt that we got a wonderful service for it.
