BEST SAN FRANCISCO ICE CREAM, HANDS DOWN! – I am a 43 year old mother of two and I have been enjoying Swenson's Ice Cream since I was a little girl growing up in San Francisco. Being a native San Franciscan as well as an avid ice cream connoisseur, I have tasted all ice cream in San Francisco, and none compares to Swenson's!! One of our favorite family things to do in the City is to take the kids on the cable car and stop off and have an ice cream and take the cable car back down the hill to Fisherman's Wharf. My children absolutely love this tradition...Swenson's has been their favorite ice cream too. Our favorite flavors include Mocha Chip and Thin Mint. ENJOY!

This tiny Russian Hill ice cream shop is the birthplace of the international Swensen's chain. – In Short
Since its 1948 opening, the flagship location of the Swensen's chain hasn't changed much. With its classic neon sign out front, and traditional parlor decor inside, the staff serves dessert lovers of all ages. The menu features traditional flavors, such as chocolate, vanilla and strawberry, as well as pistachio almond, yam and other more offbeat recipes. Waffle sundaes come in cones with generous amounts of whipped cream and hot fudge.

Tiny Old Fashioned Ice Cream Parlor – After a breath-taking hike up Union Street sits Swensen's in a pleasant quiet neighborhood along the cable car line. The fading neon sign hardly does the fantastic ice cream justice. Through the front window is an industrial ice cream maker adding to the old fashioned homemade decor and, following tradition, the opposite wall is lined with mirrors. Although there aren't quite 31 flavors, there is definately something for everyone from classic to gourmet to sherbet. If you are feeling adventurous though, definately go for the waffle cone sundae. The staff is talkative and friendly and will gladly let you taste anything you please. The place must undoubtedly be crowded on a sunny afternoon but on a cold cloudy evening the place is almost empty. Beware though, they don't have anywhere to sit so be prepared to walk and lick at the same time (unless you prefer the much less enjoyable cup route). The portions here are huge, the price is reasonable and the staff is great so drop on by but don't let the server talk you into a $10 scoop (he's just kidding though).

Love it! – I live in the area and when it's warm, and sometimes even when it's not, I take a short walk to Swensen's. Get yourself a scoop or two and take a walk along Hyde St. and check out the people as they ride along the passing cable cars.

The best of the best! - Four Star Rating – I lived on Russian Hill for 10 years and now that I have moved on I must admit it, it is one of the places that I miss the most. The best vanilla ice cream I have ever tasted. Pick out your favorite flavor and walk around one of San Francisco's finest neighborhoods. If you can manage to find a parking spot, run do not walk.

It's Different! – Trust me! The vanilla flavor ice cream it's just different from other vanilla flavor ice creams I've tried. Old Fashioned Vanilla flavor is the bomb! The Sweetness is just perfect (not too sweet but you can still taste the sweetness after taste few hours after you ate it!).

AweSome – This is simply one of the best IceCream places in the SF Bay Area. Second only to Marco Polo in the Sunset District. Scoops are large in size, plenty of flavors, many of which are unique to the store.

simply, it is great. you will not be disappointed. nothing else compares. it beats B&J hands down, as well as Hagen Daas or anything else you've tried that you think might be the best.

It's the best.

yummy in my tummy – Swenson's in my favorite ice cream parlor in SF...and I love my ice cream. Their chocolate shakes are awesome. I only wish I'd get the red star once and win a free cone !

i scream for swensen's ice cream – The last time I went to Swensen's was probably when I was about 4 years old...I just went there recently and not only is the staff friendly and quick, but the ice cream is magnificent. I had something like vanilla fudge swirl or something...yummy!
