my vote for best restaurant in the city – So the clown theme doesn't quite work for an elegant experience, but the food is unsurpassed in this city. Roland Passot assembles the most exquisite ingredients into dishes that make your eyes roll back as you slam your fists on the table (but not too loudly, this is a four star restaurant). The lobster is butter-poached to melt in your mouth, the squab is tender yet firm, giving perfectly to your teeth. This isn't a place for novelty or pizzazz - it's good, solid food that brings you closer to the ingredients. In the fall, they pass around a basket full of truffles - it smelled so good I almost (almost) popped one of those $200 nuggets into my mouth while the guy turned his head. Although the "discovery menu" is $75, it's great value, and with food this good, i'm shocked that I can get reservations the day of.
