'processed' & out the door like yesterday's news – Celebrating our 1st Anniversary, and seeing this 'local' spot, 3 blocks from home at #4 on Trip Advisor, we booked a table for the dinner seating at 645pm. We brought along a really special Tignanello, Super Tuscan, better than anything on their carte des vins. Sent 1/3 bottle with compliments to the chef..received NO acknowledgement or word of any kind on our occasion. Food? over salted and stale dungeness crab starter, poor version of risotto...salty& crunchy...service? had to ask for water for the table...non communicative waiter...maitre d'hotel/ after seating us.. became invisible...bill presented BEFORE we had finished dining... a MILL? this is a pretty dining room with a terrific location.... Value? usd125 without wine...they zapped us 25 bucks for 'beverages'...and we 'shared' with them!!! great reviews on TA got us in the door.....what's the title of that great old WHO song? 'won't get fooled again' though
always a great dinner – My wife had a tough day, so I rewarded her with dinner at our favorite-Frascati. For apetizers she ordered Gnochi which I absolutely hate-I tried it and still will not order Gnochi, but the sauce was fabulous and with the great Frascati bread, it was fun to sop up the sauce. I had the trout salad which is better than most salads but not as good as their marinated octopus salad which is worth a special trip if they have it. Main courses were great. I had the scallops which were just perfect and she had the duck which is always great. She could not finish it and we asked them to box it up. Somehow, they screwed up and tossed it, but they were really cool about it and cooked a fresh entire order to go while I had a single scoop of Prickley Pear Ice Cream. (while eating the ice cream I recounted an old story involving prickley pear and an old girl friend which made me lose all the bonus points I had gotten by taking my wife out to dinner) At the end of dinner (and the end of a lovely bottle of wine) we agreed that we had had a good night together-she is now calling me to bed, so end of review.
Delightful! – Our experience at Frascati was delightful in EVERY way. If there were a negative, it would be that the service was too fast; we would have loved to have lingered just a little longer. A great find in a great neighborhood!!
A True SF Gem – The truffle gnocchi was dressed in the best sauce I've ever had with gnocchi; not too overpowering that it drowns out the gnocchi, but definitely very flavorful. The beet salad was definitely colorful though I expected it to have more greens and be more of a salad rather than mostly beets. The scallops were huuuuge and succulent, lighly browned and paired with a vanilla sauce, which wasn't too sweet. Frascati is definitely a great find and has a relaxed, classy atmosphere.
My favorite place for great food and ambiance – Frascati is the whole package -it has great food, a great ambiance and the staff make great recommendations. I generally get the paperdelle with sugo because it's so good I can't resist. But everything else the people who dined with me get is fantastic too. Don't forget to leave room for the bread pudding at the end though - it is so fantastic!
If your sig-o has a birthday coming up - try this place - it was the best date restaurant in the city by far!
Frascati for Lobster Risotto – We happened on Frascati by accident and didn't expect much. I thought it might be nice but I was blown away by the Lobster Risotto. It was one of those meals that made me sad as I got closer and closer to the end. I almost ordered a second helping.
It was so good I forgot about everything else: service, wine, appetizers. Since I don't remember I suppose they were good.
I look forward to going again.
The service staff yelled at me. :( – What is Frascati good for?
A whole bunch of BAD ATTITUDE.
You should only eat here if you want to get yelled at by the service staff for them throwing away your to go box.
This is one of those cases where I would give ZERO stars but Citysearch won't let me.
After a lovely time stuffing ourselves with savories and bread, I could not eat one more bite of my order of lamb. One order supplies five chops. I couldn't finish my dinner so I asked for a box. So did my halibut girlfriend and my pork chop girlfriend.
Halibut and Pork Chop got their boxes right away. When I inquired about my to go box, I was told that it was waiting for me at the door. A few moments later one of the service staff came over and said, "I asked you if you wanted a box and you said, 'No.'" I was shocked because Halibut had asked for a box for both of us and when the service staff took my plate I said that I wanted a box. Perhaps he heard what he wanted to hear.
He did not apologize. He said that it was MY FAULT for him hearing that I said that I didn't want a box. He basically called me out in front of the whole restaurant saying that I was making up the fact that I wanted /didn't want a box. I had TWO LAMB CHOPS and 75% of my ratatouille left on my plate. I arranged it to look pretty on my plate. WHO WOULD THROW AWAY $20 leftovers??? Obviously he would.
I was shaking mad and asked to talk to the manager. The manager came over and said that he regretted the situation and offered to make a PASTA dish or a BREAD PUDDING dessert for me to take home. YEAH RIGHT. Like a $5 dish will make up for my bruised ego and $50 dinner.
He did not once apologize for the situation and he did not once offer to have the service staff come over to apologize for me.
The only consolation that I have for tonight is that I was with ten girlfriends who will no doubt spread the bad news of Frascati far and wide.
great neighborhood gem – I had a wonderful experience! We were seated at a romantic table on the balcony, The service was great and our server was extremely knowledgeable, even telling us that our bottle of wine was corked. The food was delicious. I had a bread salad and salmon in an orange sauce, which was fantastic, and my boyfriend raved about the pork. all in all a perfect night out.
Highly recommended for good reason! – Wonderful meal! Wonderful service. The only thing I can complain about is the size of the bathroom. Absolutely delightful. This is my new favorite.
Best I Will EVER Know - I miss it already! – Remembering how good this place is makes me want to cry. This was 'our' spot - every meal we ever had here blew our minds - I don't think I will ever eat this good again. This was our #1 recommendation to friends, clients, colleagues, family, etc. and we will be back on our vacations. Our only regret is we no longer live in SF to enjoy this special restaurant, on a special street, in an incredible neighborhood, in the best city in the US. Advice: Make reservations a month in advance, ask for the upstairs seating (overlooking the kitchen if available), ask the waiter for a wine recommendation (they always pick the best one), and sit back and order the menu (cheese plate, dinner, desert, coffee). Everything about this place says class and San Francisco.
