Very Romantic & Full of History – We went to one of our very favorite places last night, The Cascade Lodge. Chef John was there and provided another wonderful evening. It was a crisp, cold night but you still have to stroll down the road a little to get an eyefull of the beautiful grounds and the trout pool! When you go in, there's an beautiful, old forturne teller mannequin on your right as soon as you open the door and then you just start taking in all of the history on the way up to your table. They have a powerful wood burning stove at one end and an open fire place in the center. Very cozy with large windows all around. The grounds are just stunning! As soon as we sit down, Chef John comes over with some delicious, warm rolls and butter and our favorite wine! What a wonderful welcome! We always start with the house salad. Chef John uses crisp romaine lettuce with a variety of fresh fruits and vegetables. I always get the House dressing which I love. I have a hard time choosing between the crab cakes (full of mostly crab) or the table side prepared Steak Diane. They have real mashed potatoes with sauteed vegetables that are full of flavor and not boiled or microwaved to death! My guy loves the crab stuffed trout. He said he's amazed how large the trout is. He's used to eating the ones he catches which are not as large. What a relaxing, leisurely dinner and if he has time, we love to chat with Chef John, he's a very interesting and amusing guy. Also, the best coffee ever! I would highly reccommend The Cascade Lodge anytime, any season and for any occasion.

Are these reviews real? Such a shame! – We were really looking forward to dinner at the Cascade lodge, the drive and view were beautiful! When we walked in the door I was a little surprised to still see Christmas decorations about and there was a bit of a musty smell but, the smell of a fresh wood fire from up stairs beckoned us to continue. To my surprise it was decorated quite nicely and very cozy. We were greeted by a gentleman dressed in a chef coat and he seated us by the window.

The menu consisted of very old classic dishes and...their specialty, fresh trout! House salad, fresh rolls and veggies included for all meals. I ordered the Trout De Provence and Hubby ordered Filet encrusted with breadcrumbs and blue cheese along with the crab bisque.

Hot rolls were brought to the table and the feasting began! The rolls were hot and yeasty but, very light in color, I would have left them in for another couple minutes, oh well. Salad came and the house dressing was enjoyed by Hubby but, I was not a fan, tasted like thinned Miracle whip to me. Hubby's soup came before we were finished with the salad, he was NOT happy as he does not like being rushed. The soup was creamy with a lump of white crab in the middle dusted with Paprika. I asked Hubby how it was?... he crinkled his nose and said it was ok, at the same time gave me a spoonful. I cheerfully dubbed it "cream of butter soup" and laughed. Nothing like crab to me! Well maybe a hint. 3/4 through the soup sure enough, out came our entrees, strike three!

Although the entries looked great with nice portions we were very disappointed. The trout did not taste fresh at all and had a hint of iodine. Lemon helped but, there was no taste. The potatoes were old and I even thought they were canned! The two sprigs of aspargus were tasty but, quite small and the carrot (yes folks 1 small carrot) was tasteless. Hubbies Filet??? was down right nasty, tough, gristly and tasted like LIVER. Was this really beef? or was it dairy cow? Neither of us can possibly think of how you make beef taste that bad. I have to give hubby credit, he ate more than I would have. Unfortunately, we don't usually complain, and like always we didn't, our fault. Anyway, don't bother going unless you like bad food. And btw... $10 Johnny Walker scotch was a bit much for such a tiny drink. Such a shame....STAY AWAY!

Great Service and accomidating to special food needs !! – I "stumbled across" Cascade Lodge and found it to be a mini-vacation within a fantastic dinner !!!

I have certain food restrictions and Chef John went above and beyond to custom make my dinner. To sit and admire the wonderful view of the countryside while eating was almost equal to their great deserts too!!

You want to try this place, it's truly a diamond in the rough as compared to the other eating establishments within a 50 mile radius. A+++ !!!

A Diamond in Upper Bucks – Chef John Wolf waited on our table. The variety and quality of the foods offered "blew us away". We started with a tableside prepared salad (A+), followed by steak Diane tableside and Cremebrolie for desert. We had a relaxing 2 hour meal in wonderful countryside surroundings. We will be going back as soon as possible!!
