I get nostolgic for this place – I lived in Bernal Heights for about a year before moving back to the east coast, and three years later, I still think about this pizza. While that may seem kind of lame, it was THAT good. A straight up pepperoni and cheese pizza was a weekly staple and their garlic bread was incredible. I miss the friendly service, the awesome taste, the fantastic smell walking into the small but comfy space. Take advantage of what you have there because I sure miss it!
Editorial Review – This Bernal Heights neighborhood pizzeria serves up a variety of pie classics like pepperoni, Hawaiian and veggie pizza with pesto.
One of the worst,,,, – One of the worst pizzas I have ever been served was the Aloha Express - showered with chunks of tough, rubbery, thick-skin processed ham, crumbled strips of bacon, tasteless Canadian Bacon rounds, and canned pineapple tidbits with a metallic taste served on a chewy crust that was raw at the edges. It's overall taste was similar to sweet and sour hot dogs prepared by lunch ladies at elemtary school. I drove across town for this after reading one good review posted, which I am suspicious of, now.
Soggy, sauceless pizza! – We're new to Bernal and decided to try this place out. It was such a disappointment! We ordered the Veggie combo. I made sure that it was primarily a red sauce pizza and that pesto was secondary as sometimes when it says pesto you don't get the sauce. Anyway, she confirmed that it had both. When we opened the box it looked good. But there was barely any sauce!! I'm a sauce person. But this wasn't even enough for someone who liked lite sauce. The pesto was drizzled on the top and was fine. But the tomatoes sogged everything up. Yes thats typical, but the combo of it all was horrible and quite a disappointment for pizza and a movie on Friday night! I'm sure this place is good for a plain pizza sans fresh tomatoes, but if you like sauce even a little, ask for extra!
Awesome!!!!!!! – The pizza here is unbelievably DELICIOUS!!!!! The name "Pizza Express" kind of made me wonder with a name like "express" in it, how good could it be? I was wrong, this place makes a fantastic pizza. I've tried their All Meat pizza, their Pepperoni, and "The Pizza Express" and ALL of them were awesome. Their prices are on the high side, but it's well worth it. I've only been to the one on Cortland Ave., so I don't know how their other locations are. It's a small place with a few booths, so I always call it in and pick it up. TRY IT, you'll like it!!!!
