Hollywood-themed diner dishes up breakfast and brunch favorites. – In Short
Celebrity photos, Tinsel Town memorabilia and a black-and-white mural of classic movie stars deck the walls of this uber-casual, two-room eatery. A counter runs the length of the narrow front room while booths and tables fill the second dining area. Neighborhood locals avoiding the long lines at trendier Bernal Heights haunts line up for brunch and comfort food basics like corned beef hash and meatloaf.
More like Al's Cafe BAD Food – I had high hopes for this diner. It was my birthday, and my girlfriend took me here for a special breakfast. The place was almost empty, but our waitress could not pay attention to us. She forgot my OJ. OK, no biggie. Then, people who came in 10 minutes after us received OUR order. Finally, she came back to us (over a half hour after we arrived -- unacceptable at a deserted diner that only needs to fry up a couple of eggs). She threw our plates at us with no apology. But my omelette's "American" cheese consisted of unmelted kraft single-type cheese slices inside an egg cocoon. My GF's broccoli/spinach omelette was greasy and undercooked as well. Her toast was burnt. Mine was soggy with butter. Bad food, horrendous, disrespectful service.
