A little slice of heaven – A casual family owned and operated Mexican restaurant, consistently filling customer with the best Mexican food around. The home made tortillas are to divine. This place has been a staple in my diet for the last six years. Some of my favorites include Deanna Mole, Chilaquillas, and the Chipotle chicken. One of my friends has been working through the menu and he has "never had a bad meal." I have turned a lot of people of to this restaurant and I frequently get feedback from them about how often they now visit and how they share it with their friends.

Tip: The family will not rush you. Chances are you will have to ask for the check.

oh the comfort. – I started going to los Jarritos after the old Chavaz burned down, and realized that one needn't feel like lying down and never getting back up after eating a filling up on meal of delicious handmade chips and tortillas, and something saucy-beany to boot. The breakfasts are my first love, at any time of day. The mole is spicy, but not ridiculously hot-ly so.

I went with the rest of my grimey city worker crew--lots of blue collar types. The police like it there at times, which I guess is another type of recommendation. And plenty of mission district hipsters of all stripe. The musicians who wandered in were actually pretty good, though in competition with the world cup on the tv. The service is always friendly, but since there are only a few people serving and waiting tables and working the register, they don't hurry you out.

The huge difference between my boyfriend and myself is that he doesn't eat meat or drink alcohol, and I really really like a hot bowl of birria when I'm hung over. The other soups have large chunks of vegetables and meats (or fish), and while not always carefully cut, hearty, and great for a cold foggy day.

greasy, flavorless food – it's the first time that a mexican restaurant in SF disappoint me so much.

Price is on everage,no cheap/no expansive.Food is greasy and flavorless starting from the guacamole, beans, meat etc.etc

I won't go back unless I have to...

Great Mission Spot – I live right near LJ and we can always count on them for great, fast, cheap food. Their tortillas are made fresh throughout the day and are fluffy and light. The salsas and guac are killer. Their $5.95 lunch special, which includes an entree, rice, beans, and REAL salad (no iceburg in sight!) is the best deal in the neighborhood. Eating there is not painful, but I prefer to order ahead and take-out. The family that owns and operates the place are really friendly, too!

yummie food – today i had pollo en mole and my brother had the carnitas and they were both really good. fast service. the chips and salsa was fresh and tasty too. i'm definately going back there for more food.

they have a good selection of breakfast items as well as lunch specials, and dinner plates.

the only thing that sorta sucked was the street musicians walking around asking for some money after he was done playing - but i guess they're trying to make a living as well...

Delicious Mexican brunch and more in the old-style Mission. – The Scene
Light streams into this quiet corner space, illuminating brightly painted walls and vintage chrome dinettes. Decorative ceramics from Jalisco line the walls alongside photographs of Diego Rivera and Frida Kahlo. The service is charming even when busy.

The Food
House-made tortilla chips, served warm with salsa appear minutes after being seated. For breakfast, the massive chilaquiles--scrambled eggs with tortillas--or huevos rancheros are quite satisfying. For lunch or dinner, start with a quesadilla Arturo: Jack cheese melted between two corn tortillas stuffed with nopales (cactus), pico de gallo (fresh salsa), chopped onions, avocado and jalapeno pepper bits. For an entree, Deanna's mole enchiladas--two enchiladas filled with chicken, beef, pork or cheese and smothered in a rich, smooth sauce, deep with spices and a hint of chocolate--are truly exceptional, as is the fried chicken.

clean and nice – I have a new favorite mexican restaurant, and this is it. Nothing too fancy, just good food, friendly people, in a clean, brightly lit place. Relaxing and friendly, plus the mole sauce really shines.

Oh so good – I live around the corner from this restaurant. The huevos rancheros is the BEST hangover food around.

Dont be fooled by the hype – Any Mexican restaurant that has to explain Mole as Chocolate Gravy is not authentic in my book. Other complaints- the rice was overcooked and beans were lacking flavor- add the lard, people! If you are looking for an acceptable taco or enchilada, this place will suffice. Else, try to venture elsewhere in the more colorful Mission District. The fresh chips were a novelty for SF Mexican cuisine- a definite plus. The interior is fun and inviting- though somewhat garish on the lighting front. Great Mexican beer selection. Overall, try elsewhere.

The real deal – This is mexican food worth traveling long distances. I travel from the South Bay to the City just to eat my favorite Mexican dish at Los Jarritos. They have absolutely amazing "especiales", wonderful service, and dirt cheap prices. They make all the typical Cal/Mexican favorites- burritos, tacos,nachos- as well as authentic specialites. Also, the portions are enormous. Granted, this isn't the place for heath conscious eating. They do serve refried beans -shiver - and not whole black beans. However, you cannot, anywhere in the entire Bay Area, get more fantastic food in a friendly ma and pa setting. Everyone I've taken here loves whatever they order.
