A crimson Mission haunt specializing in ales and live music..
In Short
Blood-red walls, curtains and lighting saturate every inch of the one-room venue, while a hodgepodge of hanging mesh and metal lamps add a medieval air. An old, stripped-down piano and miniature iron gate that borders the stage further execute a haunted feel. Bar stools abound, but smart barhoppers arrive early to nab the best seat in the house--a lone booth accompanied by cushy armchairs.
Best place to have a killer beer and an audible conversation. I love this place, now and when it was the Chameleon too. It is relaxing, not fluffy and stuffy, the beer selection is priceless, the music is great and the staff, well...you rock!
Great Live Music and get down on the weekends.
Found this place over a year ago and I've been debating whether or not to share this red gem with the world. Amnesia rocks! I've seen some of the best bands there in my favorite type of setting, intimiate and unpretentious.
With the high stage you can see easily and the room sounds great. I'm hard pressed to pick my favorite night though: the free jazz on Wednesdays is unparralleled, Thursdays are what's hot and new in folk and rock and Sundays are a consistently amazing variety of music.
Plus, it's a great place to shake your ass on the weekends if you like soul, 80's and hip hop.
Although the drinks are cheap and tasty this place will bankrupt me!
Not a Dance place???!. You can dance all night at Amnesia on a good night! Try every 4th Saturday of the month for some kickin new Latino beats ... yes including REGGAETON! Se pone re-BUENO!
It's beer & wine sorta place. Never the less, the "korean vodka" version of apple martini was pleasant, even if mellow (48 proof vs. 80). The sangria, however, didn't rock the house. Music was good, but the volume kept fluctuating. Fri night ppl were ok, casual chick border lining the unkept hippie look seemed to prevail.
mood music, and drinks to match. Amnesia is very fun. Not for everyone, thankfully. The bar hosts great SF dj talent, and is a low key hangout for people looking for good music, ambiance, and drink choices. Like the RED walls too....
Beer, babes and beats!. Amnesia, it looks GOOD on you! The moody lighting erases imperfections making everyone easy on the eyes and the beers will kick your *#@% if you aren't careful! Another raw temptation is the music (always quality) which is virtually inescapable in this little enclave but doesn't start until after 10. Its a full-sensory experience! Come early if you're looking to unwind and chat, late if you want to party and anytime if you want to feel beautiful.
LAME LAME LAME. A 5$ cover on a Thurs. for a so-so DJ when the bar is empty? And they don't even have a full liquor license... LAME. To hear live music maybe or on a weekend maybe but I can't image the 5$ they made on the 20 or so people in the bar last night is worth the price of a horrible review or the likelihood that none of us will ever return. Very lame. There are better places to go very near by, keep walking.
Mission Delicious. Amnesia is a great place to heng while waiting on your restaurant reservations --always some great tunes going on, and the beers are the best!
