Reviews for Bec-Fin (Le)

After what seemed like years of Downton Abbey-caliber drama, the restaurant credited with making Philadelphia a top-tier dining town closed its doors. And then, just like that, it was back: Le Bec Fin 2.0, run by former French Laundry manager Nicolas Fanucci and chef Walter Abrams, another Laundry transfer. The old guard haute cuisine approach — $150 jacket-required tastings, polished sommelier service, the whole lot — is back, energized by Abrams' panache for unconventional flavors. With so many restaurants slipping on hyper-casual shorts these days, a pedestaled proposition like LBF is a welcome new-old change. (PHOTOS: Elise Wrabetz)

They really work the 'voila!' feeling of experiencing your food here — you get the presentation, the aroma, the taste, my god , the taste.

Not everyone can afford a $150 tasting, and that's where the more affordable Chez Georges come in: food from same kitchen, much lower prices

5 Stars...well deserved – Le Bec-Fin is truly an international gastronomical destination! You get what you pay for at this 5-star jewel.

It is certainly not priced to be an every day restaurant, but for special occasions (Anniversary, Birthday, Retirement) it is an ideal destination.

The service is superb, the ambiance is inviting and the food is simple, yet extravagant.

Try lunch at Le Bec-Fin for a wonderful experience at less than half the price ($54 vs. $138).

Either way, lunch or dinner, you get to experience the legendary dessert cart featuring an amazing array of delicious tarts, cakes and other spirited creations. You are welcome to sample as many desserts as you choose (they serve you enough for a couple bites of each), so save room and plan to try at least 4-5 of these rich and tasty treats.

I love LeBec Fin, but do feel it was at its peak a couple years ago – It really depends on your previous dining experiences how you will feel about LeBec Fin. First, you will no doubt have excellent food and excellent service. I do feel indignified for saying this, but I just can't help but compare it to years back - I think the food and service was a little better (geez, when I read this, I sound like a snob and don't mean to). When we used to go, I would walk out and say "I can't wait until our next trip here", and now I don't think that as much. But I do love it still and especially the dessert cart - if you love dessert (and are there really people who don't?!), you must come here for the dessert cart alone. You get a tasting of whatever desserts you want to try (it's included in the price) and it's suberb. (I have to say that when we went for lunch a couple weeks ago, I was a little disappointed in the dessert cart - seemed to have a lot of the same desserts and not a variety. Bottom line - we still love it, just not as much as we used to.

Superb dining and great servcie – This is the finest french food I have had anywhere. The preparation and quality of food is marvelous. After having a day of stress we went here and they made us feel like Queens for a Day.

superb dining – THis is the quintessential restaurant in Philadelphia for fine dining. After having a great day of fitness and some shopping my husband and I had dinner at Le Bec Fin and it was marvelous. The food is to die for and the staff is just great.

JUST A SUPERIOR DINING EXPERIENCE – LOVE THIS RESTAURANT. WE GO HERE SEVERAL TIMES A YEAR AND THE FOOD AND SERVCIE ARE JUST GREAT. THE PLACE IS PRICEY BUT IF YOU CAN AFFORD THE VERY BEST THIS IS THE PLACE TO GO. I ESPECIALLY ENJOY THEIR EXTENSIVE WIN LIST AND THE DESSERTS ARE UNREAL.

Great Food – We had the best lunch. The dessert cart is fabulous. Loved the decor. My husband complained that the portions were too small. The service was flawless.

Excellent but iffy – Excellent food and service, but beware a possibly *very* unclassy attitude. A friend and I went to this restaurant to get dessert for takeout; we waited in the vestibule as suggested. A manager coming from the floor below was overheard by my friend to say, "What on earth are *they* doing here?" in a snooty tone, due to our casual dress. To this day, I find such a display shocking in the worst possible way. I do not dress formally to pick up a takeout order from an establishment. Establishments with class, of course, never make a person feel remotely unwelcome. I would say visit Le Bec Fin with slight caution. N.B. Of the many restaurants I have visited in Philadelphia, only at this restaurant and at its "sister" restaurant, Brasserie Perrier, have I ever encountered snootiness.

A great special occasion dining experience – I went there this past Valentine's Day (which you should make your reservation at least a month in advance!) and the food was delicious! Had the 9 course meal and overall, thought the food was very unique but I could barely eat it all! The dinner lasted about 2.5 hours! Probably would not go there again b/c of the price (for 2 people plus champagne and tip = $600!) but would recommend to go here at least once in your lives!

Sneak in for lunch. – Let me just said I have never had dinner here, but I had two of the best lunches ever. The tasting menu is incredible, but for a more fiscal fix do the $45 three course (app, entree, dessert which is as much as you want). The staff is at your beck and call to give you that "emperor of Rome" feeling I like to have when dining out.

French food in 1950 – Le Bec Fin is either a great or an average restaurant, depending on your viewpoint. For those who conceive of French food in a way that no longer exists in France -- think a one-star Parisian restaurant in 1950 -- Le Bec Fin is the perfect place.

But for anyone else who has heard of nouvelle cuisine, this place -- like its decor -- is hyperbolic, over-hyped and over-creamed. Many have the simultaneous heaviness and over-contemplation that only a trained but dated chef could concoct.

The one standout though are the desserts, which enter on a majestic trolley. If you can, go only for dessert!
