Philadelphia landmark – McGlinchey's is the drinking man's bar. Regulars drink beers and shots. The drinks are cheap, the glasses are hazy, and the atmosphere is spartan and dingy. It's comforting.
Escape from the trendy scene of the Avenue of the Arts with cheap pints and a go at the Ms. Pac-Man table. – In Short
This spot has one of the most pleasantly diverse crowds in town. The regulars sit around the large oval bar and university students arrive around 10pm. The jukebox plays Bruce Springsteen, Marvin Gaye and Tom Waits. The "grill" offers chips and 25-cent hot dogs. After happy hour there's rarely an open seat at the Ms. Pac-Man table. And with possibly the cheapest pints in Center City, there's no reason for a poor boy to go thirsty.
Lager & Shot – cheapest and therefore greatest. on the wall there is a large faded painting of maybe a guy and a duck in a lake. stare at it to pass the time.
Drinking is the game – Comfortable, eclectic mix of people intent on changing the world and, barring that, getting toasted like an english muffin on a bleary-eyed Sunday morning.
Home Away From Home – This is the place I come when I only half feel like going out. It's never too loud to hear your friends and the prices make it almost too expensive to stay in. The service is the surliest I've had in the city but hey, once you get used to it you are uncomfortable with anything less. The food is safe but not good, I mean, the hot dogs. If you had a few too many don;t hesitate to order.
