Only go to Panorama for the wine – Don't go to Panorama for dinner. Although it looks appetizing, there really isn't much to the Italian food at this restaurant. It's boring and fairly plain, which is a real disappointment considering the wine list is so awesome. With a terrific wine-by-the-glass menu, Parorama is a great place to go after dinner. But get there early, the bar tends to get really crowded after 9.
Elegant but not stuffy, Penn's View Inn's first floor lounge features the city's best wine selection. – In Short
Set alongside its companion Ristorante Panorama, Il Bar resides amid a striking array of drapes, comfy chairs, an indoor waterfall and magnificent trompe l'oeil murals. The bar's 120-bottle wine keeper--which allows patrons a single glass from any of the bottles--is one of the largest in the U.S. The selections are on the cutting edge and rotate daily, and are available in two sizes as well as in imaginative flights.
kkrol – I love everything about Panotama, and if the guests wish prompt service, they should tip the waitresses & waiters & bartenders generously, like 20% to 30%, since the tip is almost their whole salary. If you are a repeat customer anywhere, if you don't tip well, you won't get the top-notch service. You get what you pay for.
Good meal;Poor Service – We always enjoy coming back to Panorama for the food. Pasta Mista and their veal dishes are delicious. What still needs attention is for the restaurant to seat people that have reservations promptly and not make them wait 20 minutes! Also, the service once we sat down was fair at best. Took 15 minutes to place our order and then our drink glasses were constantly empty.
good food/bad service – We had reservations for 7pm on a saturday night. We hit traffic on our way in and called to notify them we would be 10 minutes late. No problem, right?! Wrong! We didn't get seated until 7:45 pm. Slow service did not get us our dinner until 9pm, a half hour before the show we had tickets for started. Our glasses were empty most of the night too! Messed up a simple pasta/shrimp order!?!
The Wine Bar did not pass the test. – Good concept, but poor execution. My bartender was NOT helpful at all. While I understand that remembering 120+ rotating wines is not easy, there should be some more knowledge of them other than what it says on the bottle. (i.e., I asked if a certain wine--this one happened to be produced in Pennsylvania--was oaky, he didn't know, nor did he know the region in which was produced.) A brief description would have been nice, as would more eclectic wines.
The food was good, but not spectacular, and the service was slooooooow. But the restaurant itself is beautiful (ask to be seated in the wine cellar--quieter and more romantic), and the people were nice.
Wine but not Food – The Wine selection is wonderful. It is really fun to take a "flight" and sample many different kinds of wines instead of just getting a glass or bottle without knowing what you're getting. I would come to the bar before dinner and take a flight or two but then leave and go somewhere else for dinner. The food is ok, never great. I've had worse food but when you go to a nice restaurant and don't have a problem paying the prices they charge, it's fine
