Amiable service and delicious, affordable vegetarian renditions of classically Chinese dishes. – In Short
This could be any number of Chinatown restaurants, with its standard decor, but superior service and an inventive vegetarian menu set Cherry Street apart from the rest. Start with whatever your friendly server suggests. Especially delicious are the generously portioned fried bean curd with spicy sauce, and the light and fragrant scallion pancakes. Next, try the Dynasty Mock chicken, crispy bites of vegetable poultry with steamed broccoli and cauliflower in a brown sauce. Or, try the amazingly verisimilar sesame-lemon (mock) beef, with diced bell peppers and thinly sliced lemons in a tangy and sweet citrus sauce.
HORRIBLE! SHOULD NOT COME – the food in this restaurant is bad tasting. The service is lousy and i see lots of pests running around and into the kitchen. This place is bad. I would never come back to this place!!!
Horrible! Do Not Eat Here! – I chose to order from Cherry Street Chinese because of the reviews
and rating it received on Citysearch.
I ordered delivery at 12:15 pm and received my cold congealed food at 2pm.
I was starving and willing to put the stuff in the microwave but the food was just too inedible.
The hot and sour soup looked like they'd scooped it out of a swamp and it tasted worse then it looked. Gloopy...salty...gunge.
My Tofu dish was served with scary pink goo that was laced with peas and fake ham. It was gelatinous and similar in texture to green slime. YUCK! And the taste was like flour paste w/ salt.
I called 2 times to see where my order was AND waited 45 minutes between calls...and each time they told me that the food was on the way. It was raining out and I felt sorry for the delivery guyso when the food came I paid for it but now I really want my $10 back!!!!!
If you want horrible, greasy, gloppy Chinese foodthen call Cherry Street. If you want something edibleI advise you to pick a different restaurant.
Disappointing – Although I appreciated the free appetizers of fried crisps, they tasted like they came out of a bag; a bag that's been sitting around, open, for a while. I got one of the house specials -- veggies in a taro bird's nest. The veggies were boring, and the bird's nest again tasted like it was fried several days before. The decor was relatively nice, and service was fine.
Delicious and Unique Chinese Food – I was visiting Phila on vacation, and I had seen this place featured on a FoodTV show. I wanted to try it, and i was not disappointed. The dumplings were light as air and bursting with fresh vegetable flavors. The Drunken "Chicken" dish was also memorable and delicious. Service was friendly and very helpful making suggestions for dishes to try. I highly recommend this restaurant.
good but I prefer Harmony Vegetarian – I went here recently after reading good reviews on a number of websites, especially regarding their mock chicken (wheat gluten) dishes. The wonton soup and springrolls were excellent, but I was not as impressed by the sesame "chicken", which was not as tasty as I expected and which reheated horribly, or the jade dumplings, which I found to be a bit heavier than I would have liked with too much of a seaweed taste. Their Singapore Rice Noodle was good but nothing spectacular. I found that I much prefer Harmony Vegetarian Restaurant to Cherry Street Vegetarian (my boyfriend agreed), but I would definitely try Cherry Street again. Perhaps I would have liked them better had I tried different entrees. Note to those avoiding dairy - I believe this restaurant is vegan.
Oriental feast – The best tasting Chinese vegetarian food in the Philadelphia. Great flavors. Looks and tastes authentic from the Orient. I lived in Taiwan for a number of years, and the flavors are identical. Excellent choices on menu. Try the dumplings, you will not be sorry!!
