Neighborhood takeout/delivery fave for solid thin-crust. Ask for your pie well-done if you like a crispy crunchy crust. And get garlic knots!
Rudest Service Around for OK Pizza – Customer service and good will is just as important as quality. When Lazaros told me they didnt recognize my delivery address (23rd and Bainbridge), they hung up the phone. I was treated so rudely when I tried to place an order with them that I will never set foot inside that place ever again. Bear in mind, the person I was speaking with barely spoke English. I suggest they hire someone with manners who can communicate effectively.
Best Pizza Place of its kind – Excellent pizza, great price. Everything about the pizza is good - crust, cheese, sauce, etc. Whether we order a pizza for pick up or delivery, or get pizza by the slice, we are always delighted.
I just don't get the hype – I hate to generalize but I really think Lazaros is most popular among people who didn't grow up on all the great pizzerias Philly has to offer. This place is a pretender to the throne, sure the pizza is huge and well priced and not flat out bad, so I guess that makes it easy to look past the fact that it's sub par when compared to its peers around the city. I've had their food three times, twice I had slices, once a whole pie. Each time the pizza was so thin and greasy the cheese was sliding right off. The dough and crust are dull and the sauce is too sweet and too heavily spiced- bad combo. I've certainly had worse pizza, I'm not trying to exaggerate here, but I just don't understand the hype of Lazaros when there are so many better pizzerias around the city. EDIT 8/9/2008: Please ignore DrFear's long, rambling, extremely defensive review. Dude has obviously never been in a decent pizzeria. They all get their sauce wholesale from the same place?? Yeah okay man that's why my Great Uncle Dominick won't even tell anyone outside of his wife and kids the recipe for his pizzeria's sauce. Also, getting your sauce wholesale doesn't mean you don't have a recipe you add to it.
My favorite pizza shop – This is my favorite local delivery pizza shop! If you want a big, sloppy, thin-crust slice of pizza this is the place. The sauce is a bit sweeter than other pizzas I've had, but it is really good and worth trying. Their cheesesteaks are also delicious - much larger than the other famous cheesesteak shops and just as yummy!
Need to Tweak The sugar content of their Sauce – This is one of the better pizzerias in Center City Philadelphia, but the pizza sauce used has too high of a sugar content making it taste a little too sweet. As far as value for your dollar, however, you have that with this restaurant. If they could just tweak the sauce a little, the pizza would be near perfection.
Good cracker, gooooood cracker... – Hot women too. On Thursdays when they have the "theme" dancers, it is really worth the trip. I'll be back.
(seriously - good food; good pizza; quick delivery
Great Slice!! – We were driving down South Street and saw this place so my husband pulled over and ran in to get a slice. It was a vegetarian slice and it was huge with a lot of different vegie's on it with thin but crispy dough which I love. The slice was only $2.50 but the size of 2 slice so well worth it.
the best of philly...period!!!! – i have read a couple of the negative reviews. i think that they are probably from the mid west or competitors. this is the best pizza in philly...and probably further. if your idea of pizza comes from california, or you like the modern "gourmet" style...this isn't for you. but, for traditional "city" pizza, you will love this one. never mind the "huge" slices or the $2 slice. it goes beyond that. taste the buttery flavor, sauce, and generous cheese. order delivery or take out unless you are by yourself. the place is very small.
I've eaten better at Papa John's – Perhaps some of the worst pizza ever! I am no foody, but the pizza at this place is awful. The sauce is so thick it is like eating dehydrated tomatoes. It also has a slightly spicy flavor that can only be attributed to over seasoning with garlic & oregano. The only question is what foul taste are they trying to cover up on a pizza that requires so much seasoning? Don't waste your money on this pizza and don't waste your time playing "name that taste" when the answer is never going to be good.
no thanks – ETA 1/31/2009: Hey, to the people who think that anyone with a not-so-positive review of this restaurant means that they must be from the west coast or whatever....I am from Philly, grew up here. Had plenty of NY pizza in my life. Have an Italian relative (through marriage) who taught me what a real Neapolitan pizza is. I have had a lot of pizza in my life, coast to coast, and I know what authentic, thin crust pizza is supposed to taste like. This is simply not it for me...sorry. But that is my opinion and you should try it, as many people I know personally love this place. I have to say that I tried this place a second time, at the prodding of my friends who love it, but it still is not for me. Like I said before, the cheese is overdone and it is not good cheese, either. This is my personal opinion. And I am not inexperienced with pizza, as some reviewers seem to think I must be. Guys, remember that food is subjective, and people are prone to have different tastes. I love Indian food, but I know plenty people who hate it. That's the way things go. Calm down.
ORIGINAL REVIEW: This pizza is not good...there is way too much cheese and it gets rubbery when the pie cools down. yea it was big, but why do you want a big pizza when its rubbery. this is nothing like real italian pizza.
