HIDDEN TREASURE OF ITALY IN NOE VALLEY – I've been going to Bacco for years and it is truly one of San Francisco crowning culinary achievement. From the delightful friendly and warm service to the excellent plates that come out of the kitchen Bacco has never disappointed me.
The waiters are knowledgeable and obliging even if sometimes very busy.
The gnocchi is the best that I've had anywhere outside of Italy and the risotto is simply a divine creation. The thoughtfully compiled wine list always offers a fabulous accompaniment to every meal.
Every one I've brought to Bacco--both family/friends and clients-- have come away loving this restaurant every bit as much as I do.
Overpriced and Average – I really wanted to like this place since I'd been hearing about it forever, but in a city of fantastic Italian restaurants it doesn't quite measure up. At least 6 menu items listed truffle oil (a major warning that they lack the creativity to put together more exciting, seasonal flavors). Veal scalloppine was tough and coated in a lack-luster yet strangely acidic lemon sauce. The risotto, while good, was not $19-good (and yes, I KNOW they make it to order). Service, on the other hand, was warm, friendly and attentive, so it pains me a little to write a negative review. However, serious italian food lovers be warned...this is straight-up average.
good food bad service.... – I was really excited to try Bacco, having lived in Noe Valley forever and hearing great things about it. My initial reaction was great - the ambiance is very nice. However, our servers were cold, uninterested, and not particularly attentive, which really was a turnoff. It just seemed like they'd rather be anywhere else. The food was okay, but the same sides came with a number of our dishes, and it just seemed like they could've been a bit more imaginative. The flavors themselves, however, were good. Desserts were fabulous.
Very Special – I love this place- The Owners and Staff make you feel special. The food is always consistently delicious.
Excellent wine list.
