With a medley of hot-off-the-sewing-machine samples and hardly worn clothes, Mary's Exchange in San Francisco is more than a consignment store. – The Scene
At first glance, the tightly packed racks, flourescent lighting and haphazard hanging of dresses on the walls may come as a shock after browsing the pleasant atmospheres of nearby Noe Valley boutiques. But at this consignment shop, no rummaging is necessary--clothes have been smartly arranged by style and color.
Discover the latest fashions--other than a handful of vintage items--for prices starting around $15. Sizes range from 0 to plus, though the samples are usually more on the skinny side. Seasonal highlights may be textured linens by Flax, or fuzzy sweaters by various makers. New flower-print dresses, perhaps by Annie or Studio Soleil, go for $40, but there are also casual rayon shirts or skirts with ruffled hems. A small but noteworthy section of secondhand pants that look untouched boast labels from Guess, DKNY, Marc Jacobs and the Gap.
Treasure Trove – I stopped in this little shop while visiting the city and was pleasantly surprised by the great selection! There was a lot to look at - racks full of unique and practical items- and I came away with a little of both. I'll definitely drop in next time I'm visiting. Oh, and some designer finds are hanging on the wall, which I didn't notice until the end. Happy hunting!
