Flame-broiled burgers--especially the trademarked Whopper--are royalty at this popular fast-food chain. – In Short
Founded in 1954, this ultracasual eatery (often with a drive-through) made its name with hamburgers cooked over flames and finished with the customer's choice of toppings. The signature sandwich has always been the Whopper, a quarter-pound burger with tomatoes, lettuce, mayo, ketchup, pickles and onions. The menu also features fish fillets and spicy chicken sandwiches, garden salads with fire-grilled shrimp and chicken, the breakfast "Croissan'wich," crispy onion rings and even veggie burgers.
Homeless Haven – Located roughly (and I do mean roughly) between Pacific Heights and Japantown, this particular location is the hangout of many, many homeless people. The one time I ate here I did it quickly and was dressed rather like Eminem in 8 mile, complete with pullover hooded sweatjacket and beanie. Unforunately, most of the other restaurants in the area close relatively early, so you may find yourself with no other options than to eat here if you're on foot. If you're on foot that late in this area, you might consider running rather than walking. If you're the well-heeled type, you wouldn't be caught dead here, but if you were, this would be the place for it.
