the home you've always dreamed of... – Chateau Tivoli is more than a place to is an experience. The ambiance, charm and character of the place is matched (actually surpassed) by the folks who manage it and your stay here will be one to remember. The neighborhood has improved dramatically and we felt comfortable walking around at night and going to Alamo Square in the morning (just two blocks south) to read the paper and take in the views which are spectacular. While this is a very romantic place for couples, it also caters to many single guests as well so you won't feel like the lone ranger if you come here by yourself. You will just feel lucky. The bed was firm and comfortable while the towels and linens were industrial quality. Hey, they still worked fine and the bath water was hot in the morning. What more can you ask for...the place seems just like home. If you are fond of older architecture and decorating, this place is a treasure chest with art nouveau throughout the down stairs, consistent to the time the home was built. The wall papering and wordwork is a marvel just to observe and appreciate.

If you want a real San Francisco experience this is the place. The location is right in the center of SF and a short walk or bus ride away from just about anyplace you care to go. We hit North Beach, SOMA, Union Square and Golden Gate Park with little effort. The breakfast and wine/cheese reception are top notch and easily worth $50, making your room more economical. It is very, very quiet inside with very little street noise noticed. Parking was better than imagined during the 3pm check-in and we only had to move the car once for the street sweeping. And the coffee is GREAT!

We include a special thanks to Meredith and Nico for making our stay so wonderful and we plan to return soon.

Disappointing experience!! – My husband and I just returned from a trip to San Francisco for our birthdays. Despite the positive reviews that I read about this B&B, we found it to be quite impersonal. The building is beautiful but the service was non-existent. The breakfast was okay and not very interesting. I have stayed in other B&B where there seemed to be a sense of ownership by the staff but I did not sense it here. The location is very nice. The bathroom was nothing to speak of in our Aimee Crocker room and there was not much heat in that side of the building. For the price, there was nothing luxerious about this place and I would not think of going back there. CWB/ABQ,NM

Beautiful Painted Lady, Elegant – We recently spent our anniversary at this beautiful Victorian Painted Lady B&B. We have stayed here before a few years ago, and enjoyed it very much. We stayed in the Luisa Tetrazzina l Room ast time, but it was not available , so we opted for the Aimee Crocker room instead. We found this room to be a bit small. But beautiful in decor. Except for the Home Depot type faucet/shower and toilet area. I really expected them to match the era. I was dissapointed with the bathroom choices. This room was also located above the kitchen, so the dishes began clanking quite early. It was not as quiet on this end of the house, so we will be staying on the other side of the house (if we return). The breakfasts were outstanding and the innkeepers were very attentive. When you pay over $500 for 2 nights you expect these kind of details. Overall we really like this place and feel comfortable, just make sure you get the right room. The street seemed to have a lot of parking issues and sirens and police activity, I am not sure if the neighborhood has gone downhill. But we survived. And love this house and its beauty!! The house needs some paint on the outside, maybe that will draw more visitors.

Most romantic Victorian Bed and Breakfast and great staff makes it hard to leave and go home – If you want to stay in one of the most beautifully appointed B&Bs in S.F. then you must stay at the Chateau Tivoli! For a birthday treat my partner and I, whose birthdays are one day apart, treated ourselves to a night stay at this inn and were blown away by the setting and the staff. The antiques throughout this inn are spectacular, the attention to details in the restoration of this painted lady make it a photo op for visiting tourists, and the level of service provided by the staff is fabulous.

I looked at a number of places in S.F. and was getting discouraged by the prices and locations until I found Chateau Tivoli. I checked out there website and was so impressed by the virtual tours of the rooms I called right away and the manager Jonathan was so nice over the phone I felt our birthdays would be very special.

When we saw the exterior of the B&B we were stunned at how much time, effort and money went into making this painted lady the standout of the block. The photos only tell half the story, you have to see this place in person to really appreciate it. Then we went inside and were amazed at the quality of antique furnishings and efforts made to restore the interior to it's original Victorian period splendor. The wallpaper motifs on the ceilings are a must see, the carved banisters must be touched, and the rooms are so comfortable that you will never want to leave.

When we checked in we were met by Jonathan and Meredith and given a tour of the inn and shown to our room. They were so wonderful to us and went out of their way to make our birthday special! They made a birthday greeting for us and gave us a bottle of wine as a birthday present. Jonathan and Meredith were such great hosts and made our stay so special that we had a hard time checking out. They made our birthdays unforgettable and we plan on staying there again. If you want a romantic setting with great hosts you must stay here, you will be so glad you did.

A turn-of-the-century time capsule. – The Scene
The experience begins the moment you see the chateau. Its colorful turrets brighten the skyline, and its massive corner setting dominates its historic Alamo Square neighborhood. The hotel's grand 1800s architecture is complemented by incomparable interior touches--among the furnishings, you'll find pieces from the estates of Charles De Gaulle, J. Paul Getty and the Vanderbilts. This is a charming alternative to the typical downtown San Francisco stay.

The Details
Individually designed rooms are decorated with designer wallpaper, American Renaissance furnishings and four-poster beds. Each is been named after a luminary, such as the Isadora Duncan room with its magnificent ceiling. The Jack London room has a cozy tower sitting area. Two-bedroom suites are also available, although fabulous standard rooms are more than satisfying. Wine and cheese are served in the evenings; champagne makes weekend brunch a celebration. The hotel enjoys a quiet residential location near Golden Gate Park.

My favorite B&B! – The other reviewer must have eaten some crab apples. I can think of nothing else to explain his ridiculous review. This place is my favorite B&B in all of San Francisco! It is extremely comfortable and the furnishings are superbly vintage. Don't miss out on this historic B&B!
