French Creek State Park has no regard for their neighbors and their property rights. A portion of the planned Big Woods trail is being built over private property without the permission of the property owners. French Creek State Park and DCNR are using a private dirt lane meant for farm equipment and an easement dating back to 1912 that was meant to allow access back and forth between the two farm fields by the owners of those fields. The easement does not state that the lane can be used by the public or that the lane can be excavated in any way.
The planned trail will cut the property owners land in two and block access via motor vehicle to a portion of their land. French Creek State Park never contacted the property owners to discuss the trail until the owners approached the Park after their vehicles were seen traveling on their property. When told about the trail, the property owners tried negoiating other options with the Park for over a year and a half including moving the trail to the edge of their property or buying the piece of land to be used. None of the proposed options suited the Park and they stated that they would move forward with the trail as planned.
French Creek State Park’s complete disregard for its neighboring property owners rights is unacceptable.
Great place for families – NICE POOL TO TAKE THE KIDS AND A LAKE FOR FISHING.
GREAT PLACE FOR HIKING AND CAMPING.
Not real big and not real small – Since I only lived 5 miles from French Creek State Park, I found it to be a great place to bike to and take hikes. The trails are easy to do and you don't have to be a hardcore hiker to enjoy the park. If you don't like hiking, the history of the area is great. The fall foliage is usually really nice this time of year. Even during the summer I never found the park to be over crowded.
A beautiful mixed-oak forest that's the perfect place to take a hike. – In Short
Once barren and treeless after being timbered to make charcoal, French Creek State Park has been restored to 7,400 acres of wooded bliss. There's fishing in two lakes and the park is known for having some of the best bike trails in the area. Visitors can settle down at one of the 201 wooded camp sites or in one of the 10 cabins. Hike the six-mile Boone Trail loop and see most of French Creek's major attractions.
French Creek is Fantastic! – For those of us Philadelphians that don't want to travel too far to get back to nature, French Creek State Park is a great choice. It's only 1.5 hours tops from downtown Philly but it's far enough away to get that "leaving it all behind" feeling. French Creek is one of the cleanest State Park camping facilities I have ever been to, and the scenery is fantastic. Great hiking, frisbee golf, local wineries, and historical sites nearby.
