new city=sf new stylist=emily – One of the things my girlfriend and I missed the most about Chicago was getting our hair cut by Brenna at Milio's for the last year and a half (after three years of searching), so we weren't looking forward to a whole new process of elimination for finding a new stylist. The girl our friend recommended was booked until after Thanksgiving, and our hair was getting grossly out of control, so we decided to run the risk of taking an anonymous recommendation off of Citysearch. Turned out great. Emily was super friendly and detailed with the consultation and the cut. Rose even got a random compliment within the first half hour walking out of the salon.
Parking's obviously not the best and the price is what you'd expect for a salon in the area, so just suck it up and do it, you're going to look fantastic in the end.
Returned in TEARS twice- SO AWEFUL – I thought this place seemed cool, especially since it has a high rating through city search. WOW was I wrong. I asked for something SO SIMPLE, med. brown hair with a few light brown highlights. So she died my hair PITCH BLACK and put in orange highlights! Thank goodness halloween was coming up. I left, and cried when I got home. 200bucks down the drain, and even though I was charged for partial highlights, she put THREE streaks in my hair. I finally got up the courage to call, and they scheduled a free redo for three days later. When I went in, the girl told my that since my hair is now black, i would have to pay several hundred dollars to get the black out then die it brown. all she did was put toner over my highlights. Didnt even appologize. SO BUMMED, dont put yourself through this!!
Emily's Rad – Emily is the woman!!! She is by far the best person I have ever gone to for a haircut. She makes sure that she fully understands what you want accomplished and continuously checks in throughout the cut making sure you are happy. She is honest with advice if you ask for it and she is sweet and easy to chat with while sitting in her chair. I can't speak on anyone else there, except that the colorist I had was somewhat short and abrasive with me, so I can't vouch for her but the girls at the front desk are pretty righteous too...overall I haven't gone anywhere else since finding it.
I hate my hair! – I just visited the salon yesterday and had to write a review to warn everyone. The service is definitely horrible. I went in for highlights and the stylist was more concerned about looking in the mirror at herself and chatting with the staff instead of paying attention to my hair. She didn't really even ask how I wanted my colors to come out and just started working on it. It was horrendous! Be warned - the colors you ask for are not what you're going to get!!! My hair is a mismatch of colors, the service was extremely poor, and it was not at all worth the $130.
User review by gehnknee – I first heard about Blade Runners from a trendy hair salon all the way in New York City. What great a great recommendation! Ive been going for almost a year now and my hair has never looked so good. I suggested Wendy and Amber to my sister. She was just as happy with the results. We both receive many compliments on our hair.
The atmosphere at the salon is hip yet unintimidating. The staff is friendly and the artists create unique hairstyles that range from the most outrageous to something sensible enough for the office. Always a great experience. Their prices are reasonable too. Just remember to allow a little extra time for parking.
Horrible haircut – I have gone to Bladerunners off and on for a few years and had decent, if not pretty darn good, haircuts. However, the last time I went, they BUTCHERED ME and I'm miserable now. I look awful and it'll take months for it to grow out. I told them I wanted LONG layers and gave my usual requirement -- leave it all long enough for a ponytail. And what did they do? Gave me tons of short little layers (SO bad on curly hair!) and now I can't even pull it back into a ponytail until it grows out. I have to suffer this frizz helmet for at least a couple of months. CURSES ON YOU, Bladerunners! I won't ever go back and I'll tell everyone I know not to step foot in there.
always a good experience – I've been going to Blade Runners regularly now for a couple of years and I've been consistently happy with the service and the cut/color. Everyone I've dealt with has been pleasant, the bull dog is adorable, and while it's a little pricey - it's about the norm in the city.
I've recommended the place to friends and they've all been just as happy. My sister and I both go to Joel and he's always done a great job.
Getting What You Want – I've been going to Bladerunners the last few years. Each experience has been positive. I usually have a clear idea of what I want and Joel (for haircuts) and Rebecca (for highlights) always deliver.
Reading other customers' negative reviews re: attitude is like night and day from my own. Don't know which stylist(s) they have had these experiences with but Joel and Rebecca have always been friendly, accommodating, and fun. My only complaint is the parking situation but if you have the patience and the time, it's worth enduring for the stylists' skill-level and reasonable prices.
split end money nightmare – Every time I get my hair cut by the owner I am happy. His stylists are another story. I went to the salon for a trim and got a cut, a straightening iron, and products for the bargain price of $250.00. The cut is fine if you have an hour and a half to style it which I explained to the stylist that I didn't since I teach fitness for a living and I need a hairstyle that does not need a lot of fuss. I am also trying to grow my hair out which is now impossible to do since my hair has completely split up the shaft from all of the processing. I look like I put my finger in a lightsocket. So I have to get a new short hair cut and spend another year growing out my hair.
great experience!!!! – i just had the best experience at Bladerunners.
the staff was nothing but friendly and accomidating the moment i arrived. i got both a color and a cut and i am just loving it. the staff was very knowledgable and thorough. the highlight is perfect and natural looking, and the haircut is just right. everyone was very laid back and not stuffy- i hate how some salons are soo stuck up! thank you so much for making my first visit to bladerunners so comfortable.... you guys rock! i highly recommend to all people young and old.
