Great Food, Great Service – This is a great place to have an evening out with your child(ren). As a graduate student at USF, I would pick up my son from his preschool and we would relax in the serene, peaceful atmosphere of Balboa Sushi House before we make our way to our Pacifica home. We've been going there for the past five years and it has become a special place for my son and me. Not only is the food well portioned and reasonably priced, the service is genuine and sincere. Having an active and energetic son, it was amazing what the environment did for the both of us. We would walk in with the sounds of water, luscious greenery, fish in unique bowls, classical music playing.....My son would walk through the resturaunt looking at all the details or he would grab a book near the bathroom to look at as we waited for our food. My son is now nine and after a recent visit, I was reminded on how special and wonderful this place is to us. We were in massive Friday traffic, hungry, and grumpy. After a quick decision to eat sushi at our favorite place, we enjoyed our meal with a quiet and calm conversation, reflected on the scenery of the resturaunt, and caught up with our kind friend (the waitress....I don't know her name). We left feeling content, peaceful, and fully satisfied. I highly recommend this place for quality Japanese food, wonderful service, and a peaceful environment. Parking can be a pain, but the #5 and #31 are convenient bus routes.
I <3 Balboa Sushi House – If you're looking for a place where you can see and be seen while you sip on sake cocktails, then Sushi House is not for you. Sushi House is a small, homey restaurant where you can go and relax while you feast on fresh, reasonably priced sushi. The food is unique b/c it's a Japanese / Korean style and I only ever get the sushi and sashimi so I can't say anything about their teriyaki or katsu. I love that they have such a creative variety of chirashi sushi bowls though and that I can stuff myself silly for under $20. Because it's a mom and pop shop, the service is also very personable. I eat and get take out from here a lot so the owner already knows what I like. You can't pay for that kind of consideration!
Yummy! – Ok, this may not be Blowfish or Sushi Bistro, but if you're looking for a relaxed place w/good prices, you found it! Whenever I eat here, I'm always greeted with a smile and have always had excellent service. For $10 you can get a full combination dinner and for about $6 you can have lunch. They also do takeout so if you live in the area, it's super convenient. There's never a wait so you always feel like you can take your time & enjoy your meal.
My stomach hurts . . . – I feel very bad saying this, but, save your 50 bucks and go somewhere else. The service was great, but unfortunately this couldn't make up for the poor quality sushi. First things first, the nigiri was tasty and the portions were generous but my maguro came with what seemed a two ounce nugget of wasabi between the fish and rice. I'm all for spicy but I like to be in control of the level of spicyness (the unagi was good though). I had the shrimp tempura roll (decent but a little overcooked) the spider roll (disproportionately large chunks of overcooked crab made for an unwieldy two-bite roll) and the dragon roll (healthy portions). All rolls seemed sloppily made and were not very appetizing. In short, my stomach still hurts.
good sashimi reasonable price – lunch is fairly cheap at about $6 a dish. the menu is a mix of korean and japanese dishes. i tried the calamari rice special. it was okay for the price, but the sashimi was really fresh and really good, for the price.
Sushi House ROCKS! – Large servings of sumptuous sushi at reasonable prices, with friendly service in a lush, comfortable atmosphere perfect for friends, lovers, or the occasional self-indulgent solo lunch. Highlights include great miso soup and melt-in-your-mouth nigiri, particularly the hamachi and sake. This is a neighboorhood favorite, but the word is out, so make a stop at the Balboa Sushi House before you have to make reservations. Parking is tough at night, but park on Fulton and be assured the walk is well worth it; this is one place you don't have to break the bank to fill your foodbox!
