The French House in the Richmond. I went to Clementine 3 times the last two months, and it was great. The food is excellent, We love the escargots, the mussels are big enough to share has an appetizer or as an entree on his own for 8 dollars. Most of the appetizers are below 7 dollars, the entrees below 16$, I had Duck Breast with a mushroom ragout, it was delicious. My wife had the Prix Fixe, which came with Skate fish that day.We never had skate before, the fish was so moist and combine perfectly with the capers. It's classic french food in the tradition of a good french Maison Bourgeoise.Clementine is the best for those prices for the french experience.
Overrated - Pricey Mediocore Food.
I was lured by the high ratings of this restaurant. To my disappointment, the food did not live up to its expectation. The food was at best mediocore. We started with the salmon and tuna tartar and there was very little tuna. I expected the salmon to be sushi-grade but was actually smoked salmon. The tuna was also not sushi-grade.
For my entree, I ordered the ribeye steak with green peppercorn sauce. I expected a green, peppercorn sauce but instead I got Salisbury (brown) sauce with a slice of garlic butter. I ordered my steak medium-rare but because the steak was so thinly-sliced, it was more like medium-well. My steak looked more like a frozen food dinner platter; it literally did cuz there was no garnishment whatsover. My sister ordered the Ahi-Tuna and it looked like it was seared at low flame instead of high flame.
Hyped??!. I live in the Richmond and was extremely excited to eat here. I had high hopes for it as it is a neighborhood restaurant and the reviews on this site were high. We were seated promptly but the service was horrible. We sat there waiting for someone to pay notice as we watched other couples who were seated after us, told the specials and had their bread/water brought to them before us. We had to remind him to bring us our wine. Anyways, my boyfriend was brought the wrong entree and my duck confit was overly salted. I'm not a picky or snobby diner, but the service here was beyond bad and unacceptable. I think I get better service at any of the local joints on Clement or Geary. At least they bring water frequently. The busboy deserves a promotion because he was honestly the saving grace of the evening.
Added This to Our of Places to Frequent.
The people at Clementine got everything right. We had reservations for Father's Day dinner at 7:30p.m. and we were seated at 7:30p.m.! Apparently they honor all reservations first and *then* seat "walk-ins. So if you have a reservation at a certain time - you'll be seated then!
The service was excellent - a perfect mix of friendly and professional.
The food was AMAZING!! I had the butternut squash soup to start, shrimp risotto with scallops and lobster cream sauce as a main course and then finished up with the french toast with hazelnut ice cream for dessert.
The cost for 2, including a 1/2 bottle of wine was just over $100.
And with the price fixed menu during the weekdays, we definitely will be frequenting this restaurant again and again.
Average experience. Tried the prix fixe dinner. I found the dishes a little bit too salty, ok flavor, but not the rave reviews that people were giving it. Service was ok. The layout doesn't quite make this a romantic dinner place.
Love this French restaurant. Excellent food, well prepared, excellent service. Whether you bring your own wine or order tap water, they treat you like king and queen. The early bird prix fixe is an excellent value, you get the choice of a soup or salad, a choice of fish or meat, a choice of homemade dessert, all that for only 25 dollars! THis restaurant is always packed, so make sure to make a reservation.
User review by echase. I was extremely disappointed by this restaurant. The food was way overpriced and poorly prepared. The ahi tuna was so overcooked that the consistency was like cardboard. On top of that, the service was terrible. The waiter could barely be bothered to bring us our food. Despite the fact that our meal for two came to over $120, the waiter seemed to lose interest in us when we asked for tap water (rather than sparkling or bottled) and only ordered two glasses of wine. Unless you are a fan of overpriced, bad food and snotty service, I would not recommend this restaurant!
Oh my darling.
Whenever I miss France I travel to Clemitine, which is often.
The food is inovative but with the foundations in the classics. The staff makes you feel as if you are one of the family.
Ask Laurant for wine suggestions and the deserts amazing, especially the french toast and the chocolate cake.
Very Nice Food and Service. Had the fixed price menu. Shared everything with my wife. Everything tasted rich and favorble. Portions are large. I expected to pay alot for very little. Service was great. We made reservations and were quickly seated. Warm bread and water is served while you review the menu. They were giving out free bottles of wine for birthday boys and girls. Would definitely visit again.
Very Good French. This is an excellent restaurant in the Inner Richmond. I first went here about 5 years ago shortly after they had opened and was somewhat disappointed. Recently, I decided that it was worth another shot so have now been back three times since and highly impressed on each occasion. Food is excellent, ambiance is very comfortable, and value is good. Good for an excellent dinner for two or party of 4, not a scenester type of place at all.
