Starving, hungover, and/or cold day out? Get the Dukgook soup and kimchi dolsott bibimbap.
Richmond Korean joint woos customers with authentic food. – It's easy to get turned off by the prices at this Balboa Street eatery if you're unfamiliar with the logistics of Korean food--some of the city's best, most authentic Asian restaurants can leave you stuffed for $10, but the dishes here are mostly in the $15-$20 range. Take into account, however, the sheer enormity of each menu item here—heaping piles of grilled meats, and huge, sizzling stoneware pots of rice and veggies--as well as the friendly owners' tendency to shower you with free dishes: a dozen or more "banchan" (those tasty little dishes like spicy kimchi, sweetly brined seaweed and cold boiled bean sprouts) plus a steaming bowl of tofu soup and, depending on how busy the cook is, a seafood pancake to share. Go hungry, go with friends, and you'll definitely get your money's worth.
