Most expensive bad meal ever – A deplorable Sunday evening dinner at this eatery that is ranked somewhat below the best-reputed restaurants on the Hill. Poor service from the get-go. Waitress claimed that the larger, well-lit table we two wanted was reserved, so they stuck us in a dark corner, and we never saw that other table occupied during our meal. As to the meal, first, we each ordered the seafood special, which differed from the regular seafood pasta dish on the menu only by the addition of clams, doubling the price of the menu item to $29.95 each (as we later found out). You would think it a waiter's duty to inform the unsuspecting diner of such a radically elevated price, but ours did not--taking advantage, of course, of people's reluctance to look as if money mattered.

Now, if the food were of a quality commensurate with the price, we would not have felt too bad, but the dish that came to us, heaped with an excess of pasta of the wrong kind (linguini, though we'd ordered cappellini) and garnished with a bunch of clams--the only acceptable ingredient in it--was topped with three overdone grilled shrimp; dry, tough, tasteless disks that were apparently scallops; and inedible scraps of some unidentifiable other fishfood .

We should have returned the dishes when we saw the linguini, but we politely didn't (service was so slow, we'd have waited another 45 minutes). The waiter at first offered us, in compensation for the pasta error, a dessert on the house, but at the end of this dreadful meal, of which we ate only the clams and a few forkfuls of linguini, he did not repeat the offer, and by then we didn't care to remind him. With two drinks, one beer and one glass of wine, the resulting bill was exorbitant, the biggest waste of money I've ever experienced in this my hometown of Providence. I could have eaten well at high-ranked restaurants only feet away, for about the same. My advice: give the place a wide berth.

Poor Service, Overpriced, Inconsistent Food – My family and I went to Andino's on a Saturday night. We regularly eat at Italian restaurants on Federal Hill, but this was our first time at Andino's. We'd read the reviews and were looking forward to a great meal. Unfortunately, the restaurant disappointed in many regards.

The theme throughout the meal was inconsistency. We ordered two appetizers, and the clams casino were quite good, but the calamari was rubbery with an off flavor. We barely touched it, even though it was a heaping plate. The restaurant was maybe 2/3 full, but it took 30 minutes for our appetizers to arrive.

When our entrees came, my wife enjoyed her Eggplant Parmagiana, but my Veal Andino was inedible. The meat was tough and the flavors were off. I hate sending food back, even if I don't like it that much, but this was a truly awful dish. It was the first dish I've sent back in two years.

The waiter offered to replace it, but the entrees took 45 minutes to come out the first time. With a restless child, we couldn't wait that long again. I said that I didn't want another entree, I just wanted my meal removed from the bill. The waiter said nothing further until the end of the meal, when I found the charge for the plate on my bill.

I asked the waiter why it was still there, and he said that he had to get permission from the manager to remove the charge. The manager came and spoke rudely and condescendingly. He refused to remove the charge. I explained that dining out was a rare luxury with a new child, and that I don't go to restaurants to send food back, but to no avail. This in addition to the fact that prices were substantially higher at the restaurant than on their online menu.

So they got me for $25, but I will never return to Andino's again. It'd be one thing if they made any sort of friendly gesture to mitigate the problems with the meal. But they treated me and my family with disrespect - all so they could get the extra $25.

Not worth it – For $180 there are better restaurants to go to in Providence. The reservation was made four days ahead for a table near the window and we were given a table in the back next to the wait-staff station. Two of our diners were in their 90s and they couldn't hear the conversation or see their food. The white sauce for the tortellini was poorly prepared with the flour starch clearly not cooked, the sun-dried tomatoes were just pulled from the jar, not even chopped a little bit - and with Vendi Ravioli just down the block don't try tortellini if you can't compare. The sirloin was fatty and had no flavor. The maitre d' was condescending about us arriving 6 minutes early (her calculation) for our reservation for the table we didn't get. Frank Sinatra bleated all night over the too-loud sound system, I guess that's to prove you're at an Italian restaurant and on Federal Hill. The wine list was limited and very expensive for what was on there. The portions are large and the waiter was prompt - probably the one positive about the evening. - All in all, a poor dining experience and not recommended.

Make reservations on the weekend! – I am from rhode island and have tried most of the restaurants on federal hill..But until recently had never been to Andino's so my wife and I decided to try it one night a couple of weeks ago. the atmosphere is very nice and makes you feel like you've gone back in time into the 50's. The food was amazing. For an appetizer we had the fried calamari and it was the best I had ever had. for our entree's my wife had the shrimp scampi and I had the veal bracciole in the marsala sauce both were amazing. It was a Saturday night so It was extremely busy but the service was still good. The young man who brought us our food was especially attentive I believe his name was steve and he made the night even more enjoyable because when our waitress was busy he made sure we got what we wanted and also had a great sense of humor. If you want a night of great food great atmosphere and great people try andino's

The Seating Is Important – Great restaurant. Definitely romantic, but more effective when you can double date. We joked and laughed all night, which I appreciated more than anything. The food was outstanding right down to the tomatoes.

Make reservations. It does get crowded quickly and depending on where you sit, a good time can go bad real quick. Lare family groups beware because reservatons doesn't guarantee preferred seating even if you make reservations. The hostess attempted to put us un the hallway by kitchen (don't do it to yourself) but we requested to be seated somewhere else so they moved us out in the loft whish was more much more spacious with more elbow room. I'm glad they were able to accomodate us because our inital vibe after they took us to to our seat was to leave. Thank GOD, we didn't have to go there.

Best Italian meal I've ever had – We chose Andino's from the seemingly endless number of Italian restaurants on Federal Hill because it had a certain old-school flair. After some tense moments with the kinda' unpleasant Vice Hostess, the Hostess seated us. A spilled glass of chianti was replaced on the house. Sinatra was blaring, which was great. The eggplant parmagiana was the best I've ever had. Side plate of linguini was perfectly done. The calimari was astounding, with hot peppers vinegar and lemon juice. No question this was the best Italian meal I've ever eaten.
