Eh.... – I had to wait for my food more than for 30mins...
It seems only 1 chef and 1 waiter there.
Talked to a waiter and she couldn't do anything other than make me calm down...because the food comes late, that's not her job, but a chef's. The owner should hire more chefs i guess, and need to make less what waiters do. Couldn't ask a waiter anything because she looked so busy.
Bad Service, OK Food – After watching the game at Hockey Haven I headed over in need of some food fast! We were seated right away which is always a plus. But, once we ordered it was downhill from there. The waitress mentioned after we ordered that it might be a little wait because they only have one sushi chef. I thought that was totally fine considering the size of this tiny hole in the wall sushi spot. There was only one waitress and one sushi chef and every spot was full (maybe about 5 tables in the whole place). There definitely was a wait! A LONG one! I'm not one to complain because I have a fear of spit in my food, but I was getting close to saying something. (I didn't....I'm too much of a wimp! That's what CitySearch is for, so I can share my good or bad experiences!) Once the food finally came I scarfed it down so quickly I forgot to actually taste it. I think it was good.....let's just say it wasn't amazing and it wasn't horrible because I think that would stand out to me. I also didn't get sick so that's another clue that it wasn't bad. All in all, I think I'll make the extra walk over to Yu Zen next time. (p.s. this was a Tuesday night! I can only imagine what a weekend night would be like!)(p.s.s. the price was pretty good considering we also ordered a large house sake)
Good, but nothing special – The quality of the fish is pretty good, but otherwise, Miki is nothing special. The service is painfully slow and the appearance of the place is, generously, dumpy. Total fine if you're a local, but it's not worth a trip across town.
Little Neighborhood Secret... – Balboa has quite a few restaurants, but of all the Japanese restaurants on the block, this by far is the best. It's tiny in size, but you can often pass by at 5:00 and watch the place fill up with patrons. The teriyaki is awesome as is the katsu curry. The staff of 2 are a dynamic pair considering the size of the restaurant and the number of patrons that can converge at any time.
