Fast and good – This is a nice pizza joint. They are courteous and it beats the huge chain shops by a long shot. I agree with mini me john.
Best Pepperoni Pizza in Town! – Irving Pizza is 5 blocks from my house and it is delicious! I only had the pizza here, pepperoni, sausage & mushroom and it's so flavorful. The pepperoni is the best. Lots of flavor, perfectly greasy and great crust. The owner is super nice, too.
Good Pizza and quck – I am a cheese lover, so I think of any pizza always needs more cheese!
But, this place is downstreet from my place and I have always been treated very well by the staff and the pizza always tasted very good.
Fish and Chips and Pizza in the Same House? – Let me start my review with this... any place that considers themselves a pizza joint but also serves fish and chips is a terrible sign of something that is going to be legit. Take Deja Vu pizza for instance... pizza AND Chinese cuisine? Yeah, that place was awful too. Irving Pizza, wasn't too bad actually... a pretty mediocre west coast slice and for cheap. See, there are two types of way to look at pizza, pizza as an art and passion (Neapolitan, etc.) or you can go with the American thoughtless norm in the West Coast of looking at pizza as wanting something cheesy and whatever. Well, Irving Pizza's pizza is decent for that American pizza deal. However, since they also serve Hawaiian pizza, random sandwiches AND fish and chips... ugh. Not too mention... the guys there are idiots - not jerks, just idiots! They didn't give my friend his food for 10 minutes after he ordered it. He asked them about it and they hadn't even made it yet! I was done with my slices and ready to go. If you want to make street style pizza, then you need to also make it so people can get in and get out and not have to waste time waiting for anything. Another thing Deja Vu should consider. No, the juice is not worth the squeeze there waiting 20 minutes for one slice. It's not that good and pizza should never take so long. Here the pizza takes more like 5 minutes, and it's not even worth waiting 5 for. The only reason you should ever go here is if you live down the street. I'll never return.
Worst food experience ever – Ive had Irving a few times and I thought quality started slacking over the past two years I've ordered it. This time however took the cake.
Monday, at 6:04 I ordered a pizza which took an hour and a half before we called the first time.
Now I am a very professional person, very patient - but this took the cake.
I called them and they had the worst attitude and were very rude! They said they came and knocked and called me which they did no such thing, yet they still argued the point. I was really annoyed and they told me it would be 15 minutes.
35 minutes went by, and we called again and they said how the driver JUST left.... 50 minutes go by.
Now this has been well over 2 hours and I call again.
I ask to speak with the manager who tells me and I quote this, that I am "stupid" and I did not answer my phone or the door.
They said that the driver already came back anyway and they would not deliver to us.
I have never been this disrespected by any business professional or not so much - it was absolutely absurd.
Not only has this happened to me, but my neighbors informed me they ordered a pizza with obvious saliva on it. SALIVA.
I'm sorry, but this is absolutely PUTRID and there is no excuse for this kind of service.
It's good... – First pizza joint I've been to since living in SF. It was good enough for my roomates and I, we ordered it the next night. The first pizza we ordered was just a pepperoni medium. Out of the three of us we had left overs. The next night it was a cheese pizza. We thought the chees was the way to go... Pretty good.
My Favorite Pizza Place – I am not a huge pizza fan so am rather selective about what pizzas I will return to buy again. I also am lactose-intolerant and have acid reflux so eating most pizzas can be painful. I also do not subscribe to designer pizzas. I also grew on Chicago pizza in Chicago, then in college moved to NYC where they also have delicious pizza. So, I bring all of that to the table. Of all the pizzas I have eaten in San Francisco, I do like Irving Pizzas the best. I only found this out after walking most of the day, found myself on Irving Street late in afternoon, smelled the aroma warfing out of the pizza parlor and had to stop for a slice--something I have never done since leaving NY 25 years ago. It was good--hot and oozing with grease. Yes, grease. To me it means that they aren't using any of that weirdo cheese that looks, acts (and sometimes tastes) like plastic. The tomato sauce, which sometimes burns my stomach so I have to be careful, had been applied lightly (as it should be--pizza should not be overwhelmed with any one flavor) so the crust wasn't soggy. Just the right amount of cheese (again, not overwhelmed but nicely balanced with the rest). I took one of their "menu" lists with me to be able to phone in delivery orders, which I've been doing ever since. They even offer up a couple pizzas that don't use tomato sauce at all (I like their gyros special pizza). We also usually order some prawns & chips, scallops & chips and/or seafood combination & chips. Yum. The service is prompt (for delivery), food arrives hot. They take credit cards, are open for business seven days a week, and why I give them extra brownie points is that they are open until 1am Sun-Thurs, 3am Fri. & Sat.
So-so – I'd advise against the Chicken Parmagiana sandwich. There don't put enough marinara sauce, so it ends up tasting fairly bland.
