SLUMS OF BROAD RIVER – I live at Hamilton Mill apts. I reported a flood to my landlord last Wed. (08/22). They neglected to show up until Fri. PM (08/24). They unclogged a drain & left leaving thoroughly saturated carpet & padding to air dry. Sat. (08/25) we called & informed them flood was twice as bad. Once again they unclogged drain & used VERY SMALL shop vac to soak up water. But not the standing water in the utility room & bathroom. I was told " the insulation was saturated & had to have time to dry out." Well, if this was a suitable solution, residents of New Orleans would have been able to move back in as soon as their homes were dry. Then, on Sunday(08/26)we discovered once again it flooded & now 1/2 of the entire
(apt,) including hall, utility rm, bathrm, 1/2 bedrm & entire walk-in closet was saturated. They FINALLY called a carpet guy who could only pull up the carpet. They finally called a plumber who snaked a/c line. The plumber stated, "though the drain line (currently being used for 3 apartments) was legal and to code, HOWEVER, it was insufficient for the use it was being employed for." It is Monday (8/27) I called them again b/c drain line is overflowing again & it was about 2.5 hours ago. They JUST showed up, 3pm. I'm having to lose time at work for this. Carpet is still saturated, smell is ungodly & presence of MOLD is VISIBLE throughout entire flood area. They have yet to actually soak up any of the flood water, much less fix the underlying problem causing the damage. Hamilton Mills has continually had complaints, ranging from inadequate bldg. engineering, to gas bills averaging $180/month in winter. There's an infestation of millipedes, despite tenants paying for pest control. This, even after apartments were treated. I even paid rent for at least one day prior to them allowing me to see my apartment, get a key & even then that was only because the moving van was here & we were moving in. TRUST ME, DO NOT RENT HERE!
