Intimate and charming, BYOW – Every time I come here it feels like family: super-cozy, good service and food is tasty. Minus half a star because parking can be a chore and no liquor license, but you can bring your own bottle of wine and they'll open it and give you wine glasses, free of charge. I love the quattro stagioni pizza (unusual but great combo of toppings) and the pasta with pesto sauce, and anything with the piccata sauce! They also deliver, which is great when you just don't feel like missing Family Guy :)
Poor Service - Twice in a Row and a hair in the food! – I had a disappointing experience at Ugo in the past, but it was month's ago, so I decided to give it another chance. I went with a couple of friends for lunch. Things started out okay, but soon took a turn for the worse. The waitress gave us about five minutes to look at the menu before asking us what we wanted to order. She then took about 15 minutes to get our drink order. The food is not terrible, but it's also nothing special for the price you pay. I ordered the chicken and vegetables and received three thin pieces of burned chicken that could have been taken from a Lean Cuisine box. The most annoying thing though, was the fact that the waitress didn't seem to be listening. I specifically asked to have the vegetables brought out without any butter or salt and they came out doused in butter. When I mentioned it to the waitress she just shrugged it off. My friend also asked about some soup that he had ordered - all of us at the table heard him order it - and the waitress basically denied that he had ordered it and then didn't bother to ask if he still wanted it. Then, to top things off, one of my friends found a hair in his sandwich. Ultimately, I will not return to this restaurant. It's just not worth it when you can have a much better meal and experience elsewhere.
greasy food – This place is good if your in a hurry. The pizza and the garlic bread is extremely greasy. The toppings on the pizza are always centered in the middle of the pizza, not evenly spread out. The garlic bread is too greasy too even touch.
Below Average – I don't get this place. Rude wait staff at the Culver City location. I recently ordered $70.00 worth of food for a take-out, got it home and saw that one of the pastas was missing. When I called back, the rude order taker accused ME of getting the order wrong. No, "what can I do to solve the problem," "I'll throw in some dessert," etc., NOTHING. Nothing but attitude and grief. When we got the food home, the pasta was average. Arriabata was just OK, pasta primavera was rubbery tasting. Pizza was ok, but nothing special. Basically go if you're in a pinch, have to go to a movie in Culver City and nothing else is available. Otherwise, go to Giovanni's or Novacento in Culver City, where they smilingly serve you quality and authentic Italian food. Look up these two and I'm sure you'll have a great experience. This is not better than CPK!
Never Again – I expected something impressive based on the reviews, but now I am quite sure they were written by the owners. The food was bland and boring, especially the supposedly amazing tiramisu. I have eaten much better at CPK. The pasta is what you get at Olive Garden. Add the complete lack of ambiance (T-shirt on the wall?, exposed aluminum pipe?) and the uncaring incompetance of the wait staff and you get a "never again"
Fantastic Find – My bf and I ordered delivery from this place and absolutely loved it. The food was fresh, homemade, and generously portioned. And for a Friday night, the delivery was quite prompt and the person who took my phone order was very nice. We ordered a caprese panini which came with a side of really freshly made vegetable soup. We also ordered some pizza slices (they also sell entire pizza pies), some homemade meatballs, and vanilla hazelnut/chocolate crunch gelato. everything was perfect. we've decided that this place is our new favorite spot.
This is the real deal people! – My husband is Italian and not easily impressed by places claiming to be Italian, however this place is one of our regular favorites. The food is authentic, delicious and reasonably priced.
Fine piece of pizza – I was pleasantly suprised the other day when I tried this restaurant. I had passed it many times before, but I had never gone in. I had a reasonably priced Margherita pizza, which was in all honesty one of the best pizzas I have had in Los Angeles. Highly reccommended!
Love your Pizza! – One of the best New York Style Pizza's I've had in a long time! I think I'll be back very soon!
Thank you for the great dinner Ugo!
great calzone – The calzones are not too cheesy, just the right size. Small place but good ambience, average service but the price is right. No alcohol yet but you can bring in your own bottle of wine for no charge.
