The ultimate focaccia. Sure, they run out early, so if you're jonesing, here's a tip: Head to Lucca on Valencia.

The benchmark for the focaccia in the city. Place infamously runs out, so get there early. Everyone has their favorite, but mine is the pizza, with the deep, condensed tomato sauce and green onions. Be careful: once you start eating it, good luck stopping yourself.

The best foccacia bread in the city! $5 gets u 8 slices. They close when they sell out and it's usually before noon, so go early!

A San Francisco institution – This place is an SF institution. I've been coming here for years. The focaccia is excellent. My favorites are the Pizza and the onion. The garlic may be a bit much even for a garlic lover. I love the look of the place with its simple decor. The shelves are empty and there's just a counter and thats all. It says alot about the place itself. Very simple and they serve one thing and one thing only: Focaccia. The two women that work there are a riot. Very standoffish and sometimes rude but i looooove it! They always talk amongst themselves, never acknowledging you except to take your order. I love it though because it's so downhome and that's such a relief considering all the corporations and chains sprouting up. Liguria is definitely an SF instituiton and i hope it remains for years to come.

The real San Francisco treat! – Forget Rice-A-Roni. The real San Francisco Treat is foccaccia from Liguria Bakery in the shadow of Coit Tower. I have been going here for thirty of their almost 100 years and have never been disappointed. Every morning they bake a fresh batch of foccaccia and close when it's gone. This is the classic case of doing just one thing extremel well. The standard flavors are plain, pizza, raisin and onion. Recently, they have been getting a little more creative and adding some specials. Every order is wrapped in paper by hand and tied up in string. One of life's wonderful, simple pleasures is to get a flat of warm, sweet raising foccaccia cut up and eat it as you walk through the streets of North Beach. Don't miss it.

Classic Italian foccacia, and nothing but, at this storefront bakery in North Beach. – In Short
This North Beach landmark, which opened in 1911, makes focaccia, and only focaccia. The original storefront is still in place, including the old phone exchange painted on the window. You'll find plain, raisin, scallion, or pizza (onion and tomato) focaccia.

The best in the U.S. – I'm Italian, from the Liguria region and nowhere in this country have I experienced such good focaccia. When I eat Liguria's focaccia, I truly feel like I am eating in Italy.

Old-school Eye-talian Italian the way it used to be. Bring on the red sauce.
