Despite the zillion places to get pizza in North Beach, this place still turns out some of the finest; thin crust and perfect toppings. Oh, and they have other Italian food, too, but why bother. When you can eat pizza, eat pizza.

Delicious sandwiches on focaccia bread. Mrs. Madrigal would approve.

pretty good food, great value – Took a local's opinion and went to l'osteria on a Saturday evening. There was a small wait, as the restaurant is extremely small. Large antipasti menu... skip the bresaola... and try the prosciutto wrapped grilled radicchio. Pizza looked reaallly good, but we didn't get it. bf had the filet mignon that was served with a balsamic reduction glaze. Really good (especially for $14). I had the pasta of the day (baked penne with bolognese, bechamel sauce). Both dishes were really good... "healthy portions." We both left full, but larger appetites might want to get more food. Service was okay.. not overwhelming friendly/helpful.. had some difficultly getting their attention at times. Overall great value though.

Favorite SF Restaurant – I visit SF about ten times a year, and I make a point of eating here at least once each trip. Quite simply, this is the best food in the City, in my opinion. On my last visit, I had two slices of margherita pizza, a tumbler of delicious sangiovese, and finished with their superb tiramisu. I've tried, but I've never found better tiramisu than theirs. I find the gruff attitude of the two Italian owners amusing, rather than off-putting; their American staff are usually a nice balance. I always arrive early for lunch or dinner in order to avoid a wait -- but any wait is always worth it. My favorite dish? Their Friday special of pumpkin-stuffed ravioli. Like their tiramisu, it's some of the best food you'll ever eat. Oh, and their rosemary bread is awesome.

Tasty – Went there on a Friday night at 6:30 PM and we did not have to wait. However, by the time we left around 8:00 PM, there was a wait of about 8 tables deep. Guess we got there right before the crowd. Ordered the pumpkin ravioli which was delicious. Pork roast was very tasty as well. The pizza special that night was arugula and prosciutto. The prosciutto was nice but the arugula was "old" and the pizza was cold by the time it arrived at our table. Probably should have ordered the porcini one instead.

Delicious pizza! – On a whim, we decided to dine here although we had to wait for close to half an hour! We found the pizza was delicious, the pork roast pretty good and the servers attentive, albeit aloof. Will definitely step in for dinner again if the wait is not too long.

Love it! – I absolutely love this place. I took my family for the first time in Aprila nd had the best time. Although it is small, it is definitley one of the best places in all of North Beach. The waitress was attentive and helpful, the food was to die for and the wine was great as well. It was busy but worth the brief wait and I will continue coming back. Delicioso!!!

Fatal Attraction?!?! – My husband & I, unsure of where to eat, actually spotted a young, hip couple apparently "on a mission" for dinner and followed them down the street to see where they were going. The lead us to L'Osteria. We were not terribly hungry at the time, so we went around the corner for a beer at a patio bar. About 40 minutes later, we headed back to L'Osteria and were seated behind the couple we spotted earlier (who seemed to be having a great leisurely dinner!). My lower score on the service was not for our great waiter, but for the poker faced women who did not respond to my smile and "thanks" for seating us. She had a bad attitude, aura about her. Anyhow, we loved our cute waiter. He gave great suggestions, pointing out the specials board.

Love is in the air.... – Very Romantic restaurant but come early/late unless you can accept a 45 min wait (no cozy bar to wait at, you are on the sidewalk buddy). Small and cozy once you are inside. One of the most romantic restaurants for a reasonable price and excellent menu. GET THE WINDOW TABLE!

Not a cheap eat – I've always heard great things about this place and it always makes the "cheap eats" lists that various SF websites and papers put out. First, it is not a cheap eat. The price may be OK, but the portions are tiny! They charge $9 for pasta that is appetizer sized! The food itself was good...al dente pasta and delicious foccacia. I actually got pretty good service there, just a bit slow. There was nothing really wrong with the experience...just nothing special.

Reminds me of Italy – I love this place! I have been several times and never been disappointed in the food or service. It reminds me of a small unpretentious place in Italy--food is wonderful especially the Pizza!
