best video store. This video store is my favorite. I love the staff, who are funny, personable, and very knowledgeable about all kinds of films--even some of the more obscure ones. It is very personal, and I have been turned on to many films I wouldn't have tried otherwise. Great find!

A focus on hard-to-find films and a friendly, knowledgeable staff set this North Beach video store apart.. In Short
Shelves packed with DVDs and VHS tapes line the walls of this tiny shop, whose laid-back staff separates genres and categories with clever, cheeky labels like "80s Cheese" and "The Governator," a section devoted to Schwarzenegger. Mainstream offerings are plentiful, but the inventory focuses on unusual titles, classics and cult favorites more than the latest crowd-pleasing blockbusters. Membership is not required to rent. Customers just need to leave contact information and credit card details.

This place is great!. The staff has ALWAYS bee helpful, friendly and very fun. They know a lot about movies and seem to try really hard when I ask for a recommendation to find something that is not only "good" but something I will enjoy. They get stuff in for me they don't already carry and have even gone so far as to hold a movie for me when it comes in and give me a call to let me know it's there and I can come get it. Blockbuster and netflix be damned!

Ugh. I've rented at least 100 videos from Film Yard. Their selection is fine, the location is great, but my big beef with FY is the ABOMINABLE customer service. They are not nice; they are sometimes civil. Quite often, when I go to pay, I feel as though I am intruding on the clerk's personal conversation (on the phone or with friends who've stopped by). I like the laid back, familial atmosphere of the Mom 'n Pop as much as the next guy but employees at FY are blatantly rude. I'm sad North Beach Video (on Grant) is closing. Please, someone, open a new video store in North Beach - with some decent customer service - so I don't have to go back there!
