The bikes we hired were OK but well worn, with little or no tread on the tyres.

The trip over the bridge was great and we didn't have any problems.

When we arrived back we were asked for another credit card imprint for the bike hire fees ($102 for 2 people)

When I checked my account today, they have charged us the $200 plus the $102.

the problem was resolved and now the bank statement only shows the true fee's

We have had a great trip to the US with all businesses doing the right thing consistently.

THE BEST EXPERIENCE EVER!!!! – WOW I was really shocked to see the reviews that are on here. My partner and I were in SF for a travelers convention and decided to head down to Fisherman's Wharf for some chowder.

This was the beginning of one of the best times we have ever had. We passed by a shop when someone shouted "are you ready to bike the bridge" We kind of laughed at each other and went and had some amazing crab and corn chowder.

As we were eating we actually looked over the brochure the guy gave us ( because he would not let us leave without taking it). We were glad he did because after looking it over we decided we should try it out. I haven't been on a bike in about 8 years but my partner rides pretty regularly. Needless to say I was a little nervous about riding up hill.

Everyone at the shop was very friendly and went over the instructions with us and assured me i would be fine. They even gave us the ferry tickets for the ride back and then showed how the bikes worked and had us try them out. Once they were assured that I would not fall off they were willing to let us go. lol

We went on the route they suggested along the water and it was so beautiful. They say there is a small hill in the beginning but to me it was pretty big. I did manage and took in the breathtaking views of the bay and took some amazing pictures of the bridge. We went through the Marina and I couldn't help but keep a smile on my face the whole time. I had to get pictures of myself crossing the bridge on my bike because nobody back home would believe me without them.

After crossing the Golden Gate Bridge we headed downhill ( Yes this was one of my favorite parts) into Sausalito. We had an amazing hamburger at Hamburger and then headed over to where the ferry comes in.

We got on the ferry and it was our lucky day because the sun was just going down and I was so amazed at all the colors in the sky behind the bridge. I am getting chills now just thinking about how pretty it was.

We landed at Pier 41 ( Where we saw another one the bike rental places ) and headed back to the Hyde street location where we were greated with cheering and songs. What a great feeling. We really did feel like champions.

If there is one thing you do while visiting San Francisco you must bike the bridge and I totally recommend doing it with Blazing Saddles.

To the guy at Blazing Saddles who first ask us to bike the bridge and made us take the brochure, Thank you so much.

Find another bike rental company- SCAM ARTISTS – HORRIBLE!!! My experience with Blazing Saddles is consistent with the long history of other bad reviews. I was charged $25 for a broken bike lock that was broken when I got the bike. The owners are extremely rude and argumentative and there is no recourse. They WILL charge your credit card at their discretion. You can be reasonable and right in your position but once they have your credit card, they will take advantage of it and make unauthorized charges. Take your business elsewhere or be prepared to hand over your credit card to a company that will take will your money. I am filing a complaint with the California Attorney General. You can do the same if you are a victim of their unfair and bad business practices- the on-line form is simple. Just follow the prompts.

Horrible! – This place is definitely not worth it! I wish I would have read the reviews before we went to this place. The bike ride across the bridge was totally worth it, but I would rent from somewhere else next time. They go through the map so fast you don't know where you're going. They are completely unorganized. We were supposed to get a tandem bike and they kept putting us on seperate bikes. The chain kept coming off at the end, so we had to stay in the same gear the whole rest of the way.

Beware that they charge your card for a $500 deposit, which they do without bothering to tell you that they are doing it. Luckily my bank doesn't let charges like that tie up my funds, but you could be missing $500 for the rest of your vacation if your bank holds it. The staff is completely rude and unfriendly. They don't want to answer any questions. They just rush you in and rush you out. When we returned the bike, one employee came rushing after us telling us that we didn't return the other bike. We spent 1/2 hour trying to explain to her that we only had a tandem bike! I would never recommend this place to anyone! I hope they go out of business!

Beware – If I could give MINUS stars, I would.

It started off well enough. The staff we received the Bikes from at The Wharf were friendly and helpful.

They went over the Maps and told us how to get the GG Bridge, etc.

Unfortunately their bikes are horrible.

My wife’s bike gears snapped right off, leaving her with no way to peddle – right at the beginning of the Golden Gate Bridge.

We WALKED our Bikes from the GG Bridge to Sausalito, and obviously had to take the Ferry back.

When we got back to the Ferry Building we called Blazing Saddles to tell them about the problem bike and have someone pick them up.

They said they would send someone over. They sent two guys on bicycles to get our bikes. These two look at us and say “okay, guys – you’re done”.

I’m thinking WTF, and said “Wait a minute, how does this work? I’m supposed to pay for these? They tell me to call the “main office”.

So I do.

I spoke to “Bruno”. He tells me that he needs to “look at the bike” before he can “make a decision about charges”. He promises to call me next morning at 10:00 before my flight – he doesn’t. So I call him at 10:15. Not in. I speak to one of his employees. She says I won’t be charged for “breaking the bike” (since I had bought their “insurance”) – but that I WOULD be charged for the lovely time I had walking their horrible bikes.

I would never recommend Blazing Saddles – even if they were the last Bike Rental Shop on Earth. Please do yourself a favor and rent from a reputable shop.

I wish I had checked Blazing Saddles feedback here before I did business with them.

But since Frommer’s mentioned them in their 2009 SF Guide, I thought it was a no-brainer. I was wrong – and if you look closely at their feedback, you’ll see how bad an operation Blazing Saddles really is.

Don’t put your vacation in jeopardy by renting with them.

Of course we know that things can happen beyond our control – but charging people for a horrible experience when it’s your own fault for not properly maintaining your bike fleet?

I was looking for a Lifetime experience, and I guess I got it.

Disaster – You would be crazy to use these guys given all the choices out there. Their MO is to rip off tourists apparently. Our visit was ruined by a tandem that kept losing its chain. The staff had no interest in knowing about it to fix it for the next renter. It was made to sound like our fault.

Scam alert! – We rented bikes from Blazing Saddles. The ride was fine. When we got back, we returned the bikes and everything seemed fine. 5 minutes later, when we got to our car, one worker called us to let us know that the key for one of the bike lock was missing. We went back to the store, and the worker showed us the bag with the missing key. We didn't even use the bags attached to the bikes! We tried to explain to him that we didn't open the bag, so we don't know for sure if the key was there. The worker then went on about how it is in the contract we signed that we are responsible for the lock key and there is a $15 fee to replace it. We told him then that if it was so important they should have checked the keys while we were still there. For all we knew, the worker himself could have taken the key. After arguing back and forth, we agreed to pay just $10. The return experience ruined our fun ride. I didn't think about it then, but we should have made him cut the lock in front of us so the money does go towards a new lock and not their own pockets!

Beware of hidden rules/policies not written in the fine print – Just outside of Sausalito, one of the members of our group realized a tire was flat. We had recently passed a bike shop, Bike Odyssey, so we all turned around and walked the bikes to the store, borrowed a pump, and started our journey again. About 2 miles later, the tire was flat again. Coincidentally, we had just passed another bike shop, Mike's Bikes, so we turned around and walked the mile back to the store. That's when we realized our biking plans were no longer going to happen. We managed to make it back to the ferry in Sausalito, while stopping at bike shops to pump up the tire 2 more times. When we returned to Blazing Saddles in front of the cannery, we asked to receive some type of discount for the bike that had caused problems. The man working the counter informed us that because we did not call the phone number on the brochure when we ran into trouble, we would not get any kind of a discount. The four of us were rather surprised to hear this because we had not been told what to do in case of this kind of situation and we had solved the problem ourselves. The employee continued to be extremely rude and told us we would need to call the manager, then was visibly upset when that is what we decided to do. We ended up calling the manager and received $5 off the total price for 1 bike rental.

The bike ride itself was great, but be warned the employees refer to rules that are nowhere to be found on any document, unsigned by the customer or not, when there is a problem.

Also, the group member who put down their credit card for the $700 temporary deposit has been charged that deposit and both cards used in the end have been charged the total cost for 2 people to rent the bikes and ride the ferry.

Blazing Saddles Rock! – I recently had family visiting from out of town and decided to "Bike the Bridge" and do something that a tourist would do. After calling a few rental companies in the city, I decided on Blazing Saddles due to the friendly English lady who advised me on what me and my guests were to expect. Granted they are slightly more expensive than other rental stores, but as a believer of "you get what you pay for", I gave it a shot!

Now I am not a biker and I was guaranteed a level ride. There was one small bump at the start, which I simply pushed my bike up, then it really was FLAT all the way to the bridge. WOW what a view, I cannot believe I had not done this before. After ascending to the bridge, we crossed on the East side which meant riding with other foot traffic, it was no big deal, in fact it slowed me down so I could take in the expanse views. After biking the bridge, it was downhill all the way to Sausalito and was such a fun part of the trip. Not only was my bike super easy to ride, but it also had extras, like Disc Brakes. The staff had explained in great detail how to use the bike before we left and also gave us a great map session and advice on ferry times etc.

On our return we actually met the English lady, much to the delight of my husband, and for those ladies out there wishing to visit them, check out the cute Brazillian guy!

I just want to say a huge thank you for bringing me and my family together for a most wonderful trip, we are still laughing and talking about it to this day. Next time my family or friends are in town, I am sending them you way!

I have also just found out that they sell used bikes, it is definately worth checking out if they are anything like the bikes we rode!

Thank you Blazing Saddles!

Renters Beware! – What they tell you they need your debit card for a $500 deposit, they run it even though you return the bike rental on time. It's been 4 days, and I still don't have access to my money. Went back to straighten it out, and they wanted an additional $25 to park in a building that they own. All they could say was "Please leave NOW!"

Great time biking, but ruined by a nasty Hyde Street owner and assistant.
