Southern-style comfort food like fried chicken and biscuits are the staples at this fast-food restaurant. – In Short
Church's Chicken first opened in 1952 across the street from the Alamo in San Antonio, Texas, selling only fried chicken. Today, the restaurant has locations across the U.S., and offers a variety of Southern specialties. In addition to fried chicken, the menu features Crunchy Tenders (white-meat chicken strips) and Texas Chicken: a half chicken with char-grilled flavored seasonings. Sides include Honey Butter Biscuits, Jalapeno Cheese Bombers, mashed potatoes with gravy and fried okra.
Slow and inept – MAN, I LOVE GOOD FRIED CHICKEN!!! Church's once fried their chicken in peanut oil. The flavor was excellent!!! Now they use cheap cooking oil. And the chicken has a bitter, burnt aftertaste. It is also VERY dry rather than slightly juicy. All but impossible to swallow. Just as bad, the workers seem to move in "slow motion." When ones order does arrive it must be checked carefully. Invariably, it will be wrong. When a cashier is told of the error, one can expect a "Well, WHAT do you expect ME to do about it?" look on his/her face. Steadfast rule for me: Avoid Church's!!!!!!!!!!
